Headlined on 5/2/08:
The way to hit back even harder

Tell A Friend

Living in Fort Worth, Texas, just up the road from Crawford, Texas, I'm in the heart of the reddest state in the union.  Bush country.  I'm exposed to the arrogance, ignorance and mindlessness of right-wing Republicans, their falsehoods and their propaganda, every day.  It's enough to drive a feller to drink.  But, since I don't drink, (I have other vices to compensate,) I've developed another method for dealing with them in order to retain some level of sanity, short of chewing off a leg.

As Rob says, when they spew their mindless drivel at you, you must not let it stand unchallenged.  It must be refuted.  They must be hit hard with the truth.  However, it must be that we have a much more virulent strain of Republicanism here.  They have developed a total immunity to the truth.  Don't know what it is, don't want to know what it is, will not listen to it.

So, what I do when they tell me how wonderful George Bush's Iraq war is, how he's been right about everything and how the only salvation for this country is to elect only right-wing Republicans instead of those goddam, heathen liberals, I respond accordingly.

I graciously thank them for their contribution to helping to bring the truth to light, by pointing out that the truth is a weak and unimpressive thing without the false to contrast, define and confirm it.  I point out that, just as black or white is neither without the other, just as a rose only smells so sweet as when compared to the smell of a dead goat, just as the glory of the day is not as glorious without the contrast of the gloom of night, what they have said only enhances the truth, the glory, the sweet smell of what I have said.

I thank them for the confirmation of the truth they have provided with their falsehoods and remind them that without their illogic and unreason, we who tell the truth would have a harder time of it.

I then tell them how much I appreciate their comments on the false as confirmation of the truth and encourage them to comment freely and at will, which will serve as proof of the truth in any future comments I might make.

I make it clear, but indirectly, that I'm attacking the falsehood of their person rather than the falsehood of their statement.

Since its impossible to argue logically with these suckers, what I do is, phrased in the most gracious, appreciative terms, offer the most damning insult to their intelligence, their reason, their logic, and most of all, their person, their self-image, but in a very sympathetic way.  I don't attempt to counter their irrational argument, I attack them personally, insulting them by pointing out their intellectual deficiencies, but done in a very nice, seemingly complementary way.  I point out their inability to observe and correctly interpret objective reality, the unexpressed synonym for which is, Stupid.  I call them stupid in a very gracious, subtle way, without ever saying the word stupid.

Subtlety, second only to silence, is the most expressive form of contempt.  To dismiss their argument as proving the opposite of their intent is contemptuous of them and is the most effective way I have found for dealing with their falsehoods, unreason, illogic, ignorance and arrogance, which, of course, is wholly deserving of contempt.

So, the next time a Republican hands you some bullshit, say, "Hey, that's great, thank you for bringing that up since its so far from the truth of what I said, it actually proves the truth of what I said.  Please comment with falsehoods anytime.  We need all we can get.  It makes the truth shine in contrast to the false."

And, remember, if you are not a Republican, you are inherently, genetically, morally, ethically and intellectually superior to any Republican.  Start acting like it.  Don't be afraid to enter into a battle of wits with a Republican.  Its alright to fight an unarmed person.

I consider myself to be a traditional democrat and I'm definitely not a liberal. I think the democratic party should be welcoming to everyone and not be taken over by a bunch of liberals out of the Northeast.

95% of Russians are republicans!

Thank you Ed for that article.  You are one hundred percent absolutely correct.  Liberals are wonderful.  It is so marvelous that liberals run the Democratic party!

What would the democratic party be without liberals.  Liberals are quite correct on everything and they know everything and just like the Pope they are infallible.

There should never be any debate.  We should just be able to read what the liberals say and then immediately mimic everything.

Always vote the way the liberals tell you to and always support the candidate of their choice.

Liberals are intellectuals.  The only reason they can't win elections is because everyone in the flyover zone are stupid morons.  Especially the entire state of Texas.  It is furtherest away from the northeast as you may know if you are liberal enough to know anything about geography.

Rightwingers listen to propaganda from Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly.  Liberals are too brilliant to listen to propaganda or to talk in absolutes.

You go Ed.  Good for you.

A writer is a rogue goose. All other gees fly in a flock formation; every goose knows his place and time for honking. The rogue goose is undisciplined. He leaves the formation indiscriminately to have a look at it from aside. He roams back and forth, takes a peep at the leader, honks a little bit from behind, distracts everyone and writes on what he sees. Time passes and as he wants to return back to his place he discovers someone else there. Thus he either has to wait until they land for rest...

95% of Russian immigrants are pro-Bush. No, they do not belong to GOP. They just sniff the best opportunity as they see it. You seem to be the one too, judging from your unfortunate entries. And please, spare me and us from your sarcasm. You are who you are. So far you have proven the worst perceptions.

Hitting hard

One way The Democratic party can deliver blows to the Republican party is to actually represent the middle class and actually take on special interests. So far Dems have been almost as corporate minded as Republicans.

The reason so many fools declare themselves Republicans and will never consider voting for a Democrat is the fact they have identified themselves with the party. Republicans have crafted an image for themselves as wealthy successful people who are tough, like ranchers, old time oil drillers entrepreneurs etc. Democrats need to display the  toughness it once had when most blue collar folks voted Democratic. Win back construction workers, oil rig workers, loggers truck drivers etc.

Its time to portray the Republican party for what it really is, a group of old out of shape men, born into money, dressed in expensive suits, crafting shady deals that center around looting the middle class so wall street executives can make 50 million a year.

I'm not sure that anyone really cares about the characters

It is the lousy day to day stealing that annoys.  The words, crooks, suckers, cowards, bullys, liars, thieves should never be far from anyone's lips.  Neither right not left like to be beggared and conned.

I'm sorry...

...no disrespect intended... BUT:

"...if you are not a Republican, you are inherently, genetically, morally, ethically and intellectually superior to any Republican."

Not only is this bullshit... it's dangerous and evil bullshit.  Most "conservatives" have no idea whathefuck that means... and most "progressives" (remember when we used to be "liberals?") are just about as clueless.  Most of the Poles, Czechs, Russians, Rumanians, etc. that I know are virulently and rabidly "anti-communist," and although they were forced to read Marx, Engels, etc. ... all thru their school years... they don't seem to understand it at all.

No big surprise there.  Most "Americans" like to quote Adam Smith, Franklin, Jefferson, etc. ... but are equally incapable of putting any of it in historical context. What it boils down to is this:

If you're closer to the bottom of whatever "economic system"  your neighborhod says it professes... you get mad at the rich fatties  washing your face with dog-pee snowballs and are against whatever label the fatties (whether they live in a dascha or Palm Beach) pretend they wear.  There ARE exceptions... people who are making out... and see that it's just luck-o-the-draw... and think it unjust.  Rare... but significant.

But for most people... these labels are meaningless.  It may as well be Crips and Bloods... Red dots and Blue dots... it's just a case of "Us vs. Them," and whatever "Us" and "Them" (uhh... da peeps wot aint "US"... whatever THAT is) means dont matter a fiddler's fart.

So don't fucking tell me that I am  "genetically, morally, ethically and intellectually superior" to anybody who wears a green hat because I wear a yellow hat.  Yeah yeah... I know it's satire.  I know you didn't mean it that way.

Nobody likes the fatboys who wash our faces with dog-pee snowballs.  What's more important... when we gain some weight and a bit o muscle... we do the dog-pee washing because we are "...genetically, morally, ethically and intellectually superior ."  Oh... well THEN it's OK because it's US.  How about we abandon all the twaddle about the labels and the ideology.

Let's just admit we are after paybacks from anybody who pooped on us because THEY were after paybacks.

Fucking Chimpanzee Politics.

Superior

I'm glad you presented the opportunity to comply with your request that I not call you superior.  I agree with you that it would be inappropriate.

So, what is the truth?

Ed,

I just read your long winded diatribe about hitting the evil Republicans. One thing you failed to bring up: what is the truth (in your opinion)? You never said anything other than to bring forth a vicious attack!

Where's the beef?

John

The subject

The subject of both Rob's and my article is about how to tell the truth.  They are not about what the truth is.  Not to belabor the point, but they are different things.  To catalogue the truth needed to counter the Republicans, as you seem to think is necessary in articles about an entirely different subject, would require more space than is available on the website.
