Nancy Pelosi says that if she were not in the House and not Speaker of the House she would probably advocate impeaching George Bush. Think about that. It defies logic. It makes no sense at all. If she couldn't do it, she would but since she can do it, she won't. Got that?
She says, "The question of impeachment is something that would divide the country." Would, Nancy? Take a look around. Another logic defying statement. There's no question about impeachment. That question has already been resolved. It's now just a matter of doing it. Not impeaching Bush has already divided the country.
She says she wants to end the war in Iraq, expand health care, create jobs and preserve the environment. Do you think it's possible, from her experience with Bush vetoing her previous legislation, that she still doesn't understand that George Bush can get anything he wants from her, veto anything she wants from him and that there will always be an Iraq was as long as George Bush is president?
It's hard to understand that Pelosi doesn't know what we know. Ending the Iraq war is not about passing legislation. She's tried that and it didn't work. That is an impossibility with George Bush as president. Ending the war is about removing George Bush, who IS the Iraq war. And yet, Pelosi keeps talking about ending the war as if she doesn't know this cold, hard fact. She fails to take into account that George Bush will never allow her to end the war or to pass legislation that accomplishes anything that George Bush doesn't want.
Nancy says, "I take an oath to defend and protect the Constitution, so it is a top priority for me and my colleagues to uphold that." And she says, "I would like us to stay focused on our agenda this week." You'd think that her top priority would be, well, her top priority on her agenda. But, for some reason that she will not explain, her top priority is not her top priority. It's not even on her agenda.
What is on her agenda is expanding children's health care and reining in the Bush administration's warrantless wiretapping program. Bush has already said that he will veto the health care plan and trying to rein in Bush on his spying programs that no one even knows the extent of is laughable. He'll just make a signing statement that says he can do what he wants and keep right on doing it.
The only way to accomplish any of the things Pelosi says she's going to accomplish is to first remove George Bush from the presidency. So, why does she keep grinding out legislation that she knows Bush is going to immediately throw in the garbage? Why does she keep doing these exercises in futility when she knows perfectly well that it will all come to nothing? Why does she not acknowledge the fact that the removal of George Bush is the first step in her being able to accomplish anything at all? Why does she keep shying away from the one and only thing that prevents her from doing anything, the one thing that has her completely blocked on all issues? Why does she studiously look the other way while George Bush sits in the White House with his veto and signing statements and renders her a neuter, an object of ridicule, a nothing?
I just can't believe that she doesn't know all this. So, what's going on here? Damned if I know.
