Be our hero, Warren

America is in trouble and needs a hero before it's too late. I do not know you and only recently learned of what you've done and what you stand for. In a time when the voice of the "people" is being lost amidst neo-corporate speak you have consistently stood up for the dignity of all human beings. We, the people of the world, need your voice to ensure balanced political discussions on the nations' airwaves.

It will be very hard to save the world, given all the problems and issues which confront us. I was personally overwhelmed by your recent decision to donate virtually your entire fortune to charity. However, I wonder if your generosity will do any good, in the long run. If we continue destroying the "middle class", creating more and more poor folk your donations are wasted. If we refuse to make the hard choices posed by such issues as Global Warming, who will survive? If we continue relying on "free trade" slavery, what jobs will be left? Progressive talk is aimed at addressing these and many other issues. The real question is... will the people be allowed to hear such discussions??? We need a hero with the means to ensure progressive populist discussions flourish.

Since the elections there is a major push to reduce "progressive" talk radio's small but critical voice on the airwaves The current Orwellian corporate control over the media is distorts issues for political/economic gain and will destroy the world if allowed to go unchallenged. Clear Channel is currently being sold off, rumors have it, to neo-conservative private groups. Already several stations are cutting back progressive radio. This is NOT what the people voted for; we have a thirst for the truth and have demonstrated the willingness to stand up if we understand what is going on. The current strangulation of the media by vested corporate interests fears this and is trying to quash the only voice left to balance the rhetoric of the right.

Progressive populist voices desperately need a secure platform to discuss issues and ideas with the people. Lots of stations are going to be sold off... who will buy them? Who will upgrade them? What message will they convey? Can we afford another O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Beck, Savage or Hannity?

I believe that when people understand what's really going on most of us get together and try to fix things. However, the people need to hear THE TRUTH. Who will speak truth to power? Since the fairness doctrine was repealed in 1987, Corporate control of the media has grown and right wing elitist control of the public airwaves is almost total these days. Even NPR is being coopted.

Air America was the first true progressive network to reach a nationwide audience but it's future is in doubt. I sincerely hope it is you who is negotiating to save them. I was ignorant of all that was going on until I tuned them in a year ago and that moment has forever changed my life. They've done so much to enlighten Americans eager to understand what is really going on. This voice is critical and cannot be allowed to die.

The world could be sooooo different. We need to change many directions. The answers are out there. They run against the status quo and existing power structures. To go up against these forces requires a voice. We need you to support that voice... You're one of the few who can. Please use some of your tremendous resources to help save the world. There is not a lot of time....

BE OUR HERO, WARREN...

For the Children Everywhere

I grew up wondering why things were as they are and how they could be different. After spending over a decade in GAO focusing on energy and environment, I grew disgusted and retired to the sanctity of nature, creating gardens and raising a family (more...)
