Bible quotes to use with Christians who still support Bush

by Carol Wolman     Page 1 of 2 page(s)

Tell A Friend

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

If your pastor is still telling you that Bush is anointed by God, he is lying.  You are laboring under a powerful delusion, as described in 2 Thessalonians 2:

11For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie.

It’s plain to anyone with open eyes that Bush is a man of lawlessness, as described in  2 Thessalonians 2: 1-13, which will be referred to throughout this article.  Bush breaks the law with impunity, and when confronted, gets the rubber stamp congress to change the law retroactively to cover him, or claims “executive privilege”.  He circumvents laws passed by Congress with “signing statements”.  He violates international treaties which the US has signed, and which are the supreme law of the land.  He has shredded the US Constitution, which he swore to uphold and defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic.   A man of lawlessness, indeed.

You may reply that Bush must be a Christian because he says he is, and quotes the Bible sometimes.  Therefore we must pray for him.  Do you not remember that calling oneself a Christian doesn’t make you one?

Matthew 7: 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

But your pastor tells you Bush is a Christian, and must be supported, although the truth is otherwise.   You think by listening to your pastor, you will be saved.  You are wrong.  Listening to your pastor rather than listening to the truth is a practice of the Nicolaitans, which the Holy Spirit hates (Rev. 2: 6)  And you will be condemned for not discerning the wickedness of the man of lawlessness for yourself.

2 Thessalonians 2: 12and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

Bush delights in wickedness.

2 Thessalonians 2: 9The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders,

Bush has invaded and occupied two countries that never harmed or menaced the United States, and is threatening to unleash the horror of thermonuclear war on a third- Iran.  He is responsible for the death of a million Iraqis and several thousands young Americans, for a military adventure that benefits only himself and his oil buddies.  If you support his wars, you are delighting in wickedness, and will be condemned.

If you still don’t see this, look at the fruits.

Matthew 7: 16-20 By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. So by their fruits you will know them."

The fruits of Bush’s presidency are an discredited and impoverished country.  America is now loathed internationally for torturing, violating international law, refusing to cooperate to stop global warming.  Bush has turned the US into a rogue nation.   Domestically, people are losing their homes, the price of gas has doubled, and We the People have lost fundamental rights like habeas corpus and the right to privacy.

Bush worships money.  His policies are all designed to enrich himself and his buddies through their family corporations,- Carlyle, Halliburton, Exxon- Mobil, Bechtel.  These corporations have profited enormously from the invasion and occupation of Iraq, doubling and tripling their receipts.  Meanwhile, We the People, whom he supposed to be serving, grow poorer and poorer.  Therefore Bush can’t be a Christian.

Matthew 6:24 "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You can't serve both God and Mammon"

Not gonna let this go unanswered

The only truthful thing you stated in this diatribe was the part that President Bush is not appointed by God. That is true, because does not appoint anybody to be president.  Every other piece of internet farting you spewed out about President Bush and his supporters is a disgusting, bald-faced lie. Every word.

"If you support Bush and his war, you will be condemned..." You are wrong.  Quit trying to usurp God's authority. He will not condemn somebody's support for George W. Bush, and He will not condemn somebody's support for Dennis Kucinich. Talk about mixing religion and politics. People scream bloody murder when Pat Robertson or Randall Terry pulls this garbage - and well they should. Same principle applies here. I rebuke this false message.

An appropriate refutation.

Actually, Bush and the 'Bush Christians' have invoked God as justifying Bush's actions, and as such it is appropriate to quote scripture to refute what has been said.  That this is true is indicated in what you say (below), and recall that Bush himself said God told him to invade Iraq, and he took took the advice of his "higher father". When religion is invoked to justify such evil, then religion may also be invoked to counter that evil.

Carol

Carol,

We think alike. Anyone who understands the Bible can see right through

Bush.  I would have to say that "submission to government authorities" is

the Bible verse that is used most to control people. It's unfortunate that

well meaning, but pathetically naive Christians would follow Hitler to the

very last breath because he was the head of government. Obey stop signs

and traffic lights, but don't support lying presidents.

On Romans 13

I just wrote an op-ed piece on how Romans 13 supports We the People, since We the People are the governing authorities under the US Constitution.  We delegate our authority to our Representatives in Congress.  The president and veep are public servants whose job it is to carry out the laws passed by the Representatives of We the People.

Bush and Cheney have rebelled against our authority, and against the Constitution.  According to Romans 13, justice will be done- this means impeachment.

Likewise, many other Bible passages support peace, truth, justice and all the other virtues which Bush et al are flouting, destroying.  The prophecies say (2 Thess 2: 2-12, Rev 19: 21, etc) that the minions of satan will end up in the lake of fire.  This means impeachment and public disgust.

The Bible gives a special blessing to peacemakers ( Matt 5: 9).  We should use it to woo back the Christians who have been misled into following Bush by false prophets like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell.

Relying on urban myths

This quote about Bush saying "God told me to attack Iraq" has never been shown to be true. It is pretty much an internet myth, roughly akin to Jason Leopold telling everybody that Karl Rove was going to indicted in 24 hours.

it's not an internet myth

it's in an article in Haaretz from the transcript of the meeting, which they obtained.
