Jesus lived in times similar to our own. The noble Roman Republic had degenerated into an empire, and the emperors were corrupt. In the province of Judea, the ruling Pharisees were equally corrupt, although outwardly pious. Like Bush and his minions, they professed devotion to God, but in practice they flouted God's laws.

Jesus frequently denounced their hypocrisy:

Lk 11:37-41

After Jesus had spoken,
a Pharisee invited him to dine at his home.
He entered and reclined at table to eat.
The Pharisee was amazed to see
that he did not observe the prescribed washing before the meal.
The Lord said to him, "Oh you Pharisees!
Although you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish,
inside you are filled with plunder and evil.
You fools!
Did not the maker of the outside also make the inside?
But as to what is within, give alms,
and behold, everything will be clean for you."

The Bush Pharisees are filled with plunder and evil. Their utter hypocrisy is exposed by recently released conversations between Bush and his minions, deriding the Evangelical Christians. These are the very people on whom they rely for votes, and thus forlegitimacy.

Today Bush signs The Military Tribunal Act, passed by a craven Congress a couple of weeks ago. This Act authorizes him as Commander-in-Chief (on active duty as long as there is a "war on terror", of course) to suspend habeas corpus, eavesdrop at will, and treat any American citizen as an "enemy combatant" with no legal rights whatsoever. In other words, this Congress has just handed Bush absolute power over the American people. Is it too late to depose the hypocritical tyrant?

We have a Congressional election in 3 weeks. And there IS an alternative to voting in the same bunch of corrupt cowardly people, who, under Pelosi's leadership, will never challenge Bush's dictatorship.

The Longhouse Coalition is composed of honest, independent candidates for Congress, whose first priority is to impeach Bush and Cheney. We are Democrats, Republicans, Greens, Independents, joined together by agreement on a platform that will restore our democracy, make peace and avoid nuclear holocaust, and reshape our economy and ecology with a view to a sustainable planet for the seventh generation hence.

Tell your friends. Solidarity got rid of the Communist regime in Poland through a peaceful election. We can do it here. Spread the word- we have 3 weeks.
