The War That George Built
Definitely Not a Nursery Rhyme
by Becky Burgwin

This is the speech where they lied to the people
And started the war that George built.

Here are the words that were said in the speech
When they lied to the people
And started the war that George built.

Here is the woman who told all the people
They forgot to get rid of
The words from the speech
When they lied to the people
And started the war that George built.

Here is the man who told all the people
The words were just lies
They forgot to get rid of
From the president's speech
When they lied to the people
And started the war that George built.

Here is the woman who worked undercover
To keep us all safe
From some really bad people
Who weren't in the speech
When they lied to the people
And started the war that George built.

Here is the man who outed the woman
Who worked undercover
Who was wife of the guy
Who told all the people
That the words were just lies
That they said in the speech
That started the war that George built.

Here is the man who told all the people
That there's nothing to find
That gives them the right
To destroy their whole country
But they lied to the people
And told them to wait
And started the war that George built.

Here are the caskets of noble young soldiers
Who went bravely to war
To help serve their country
Believing their leaders
When they lied to the people
And started the war that George built.

Here are the photos that came from the prisons
Of horrible torture
Of women and children
In the land they destroyed
When they lied to the people
And started the war that George built.

Here is the memo that proves to the people
That the words were just lies
There was nothing to find
In the land they destroyed
When they lied to the people
And started the war that George built.

Here are our leaders who for money and power
Told their own people
After they were attacked
That war would be good
And they stood up and told us
To keep us all free
And make us all safer
To destroy a whole country
And torture their people
While killing so many
"Collateral damage"
But they lied to our people
While calling us cowards
And killing our children
While making more money
And we're totally beat
While they lie, cheat and steal
And we just have to watch it
Because we can't stop it
As they kill all the people
And murder their children
And smash all their treasures
And we're not any safer
'Cause everyone hates us
And wants us all dead
When they started the war that George built.
