There are some things we take for granted. One of these things is what the American Dental Association says is okay to put in our mouths everyday, at least twice a day, several minutes at a time. I have followed the ADA’s instructions for dental hygiene for 50+ years, faithfully, dutifully, and trustingly. That is, until last night. Last night I read the back of the toothpaste container. What has me so upset, you ask? This: “Warning: Keep out of reach of children under 6 yrs. of age. If more than used for brushing is accidentally swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away. Directions: Do not swallow.”
Do not swallow??? If swallowed, get medical help immediately??? This is toothpaste! I have a code of conduct that I like to live by. I don’t always achieve this goal, but I try. It is this, “Do not put anything in your mouth that you are not prepared to ingest.” Apparently, toothpaste is in the “do not ingest category” and I have been happily ingesting it for 50+ years.
The only active ingredient in this toothpaste that I have been gulping down by the brush full is Sodium Fluoride, a toxic waste. Yes, I did some studying after realizing I was being poisoned by toothbrush. This is the ADA wonder drug of choice for ‘fighting cavities.’ Excuse me, but it also is highly toxic. In fact, Sodium Fluoride is so toxic that the label on almost all toothpaste containers says, “Do not swallow. If swallowed, get medical help right away.”
Now some may call me a conspiracy theorist, but the fact that the American Dental Association has systematically been poisoning us for umpteen years under the cover of dental health, does not persuade me to place trust in our ‘medical authorities.’ We are talking about toothpaste! Water is another story. City water contains, you’ve got it, Sodium Fluoride! This is the same ingredient in the toothpaste that is considered toxic if swallowed.
This is not a horror movie, nor is it science fiction. Our own ‘highly trusted’ and government approved medical authorities are poisoning us. Do you know that Ora-gel is advertising a “training toothpaste” that is “safe to swallow” and “contains no Sodium Fluoride?”
The conspiracy theorists are right; they are out to get us; death by dental hygiene. Here, drink this water by the gallon, every day, and brush your teeth with this, every day. When you contract some sort of incurable disease such as cancer, don’t blame us, we told you not to swallow.
Barbara H. Peterson is retired from the California Department of Corrections, where she worked as a Correctional Officer at Folsom Prison. She was one of the first females to work at the facility in this classification. After retirement, she went to college online to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Business, and graduated with honors.
The most valuable thing she received from her time with UOP was a realization that her life's passion is writing. Now her business degree sits in her desk drawer, and she counts herself in the category of Writer/Activist.
Someday she will make money writing, but that is not why she does it. "I do it because I must. A driving force compels me to reach out to others with what I learn about the condition we the people are in, and that is what I devote my time to. After all, time is the most precious thing we have, and the older I get the more I want to use it wisely."
Barbara lives on a small ranch in Oregon with her husband, where they raise geese, chickens, Navajo Churro sheep, Oggie Dog, a variety of cats, and an opinionated Macaw named Rita. She believes that self-sufficiency and localization of food sources will be necessary to survive the coming depression. To this end, she has put up a website to share information at:
http://survivingthemiddleclasscrash.wordpress.com.
Her philosophy is this: You are on this earth for a reason - to fight for the light. Your words are swords that penetrate the darkness with truth and light. You have a purpose.
Of special note among the animal studies is one in which rats fed water containing 1 ppm fluoride had an increased uptake of aluminum into the brain, with formation of beta-amyloid plaques, which is a classic marker of Alzheimer's disease pathology in humans.
If your water comes from a municipal water supply, chances are some small percentage of people in your community of family and friends may be affected by fluoride in your water. Also don't count on bottled water or other bottled beverages to be free of fluoride, as many corporate bottlers fill their beverage containers using municipally supplied water.
On another cheerful note, the American market place is literally washed with chemicals that are seldom tested for biological activity or effects. I recently read (sorry I don't recall the source) that more than 600,000 synthetic compounds have been developed in laboratories for different applications, but that less than 1 percent have ever been tested for effects on biological systems, carcinogenicity, allergenic responses, or other effects on human physiology let alone ecological or environmental toxicology. We need a precautionary principle that slows the introduction of new chemicals into our environment without some regime of testing regardless of whether the compound is to be applied externally, taken internally, or just used to create products that we come into contact with on a daily basis.
The Environmental Working Group provides a rich resource cataloging the chemicals that are finding their ways inside our bodies. Check out: http://www.bodyburden.org/ and please reduce your exposure to synthetic chemicals as a precaution against unknown biological activity for your own good health.

Toothpaste is just the tip of an enormous iceberg when it comes to hazardous chemicals that are found in vitually every mainstream product that is ingenested into the human body.
Want to be further shocked? Look at the list of ingredients on the containers of every canned, bottled or otherwise pre-packaged food item in your kitchen cupboards. Then read the list of ingredients on your shampoo, anti-perspirant, hair dye, tanning lotion, and cosmetics.
The very places where we expect to nourish and pamper ourselves - our kitchens and bathrooms - have become repositories of toxic chemicals that end up causing us harm in the long run.
Then they tell you that no one knows what causes cancer or any of these horrible diseases, but if we keep donating more money, a "cure" will eventually be found.
