While the Government fakes inflation numbers, George Bush relies on Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson to keep printing the illusion of prosperity.
While the Government fakes inflation numbers, George Bush relies on Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson to keep printing the illusion of prosperity.

George W Bush's ineptitude, arrogance and greed is not only bringing down the American economy, like every business he has been associated with, but the global economy which bought into and financed Bush's economic pipe dreams: Allen L Roland

The Dow crashed 400 points in electronic trading Monday, pointing to a disastrous opening today which happened in spades as the Dow tumbled again but partially recovered.

Dave Lindorff writes in Counterpunch today that Hard times are a coming and properly blames the Cheney/ Bush administration.
Excerpt: " The Bush chickens ~ endless deficits as far as the eye can see, and a $2-trillion military debacle that has no end in sight and that is sucking money out of the country like a giant industrial vacuum cleaner ~ are coming home to roost. The President and Vice President clearly hoped that they could pass the wreckage of their eight years in office on to the next president and run off to retirement and senior stateeman status before it all blew up, but their luck ran out. The economic shit has hit the fan. Chances are that the war that they have tried to tuck away in the closet with a "surge" in troops and a brutal campaign of aerial bombardment, will also blow up on them before the year is out." http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article19133.htm
Mike Whitney has been right all along on this growing economic crisis and properly associates it with a total loss of confidence in the Cheney/Bush administration.

Is This The Big One?
By Mike Whitney
On Monday, fears of a US recession spilled over into Asian markets sending stocks tumbling. Indexes were hammered across the board in what turned out to be the worst day of trading since 2001.
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article19126.htm
Excerpt:  " The huge sell-off is a sign that global investors do not believe that the Fed's rate cuts or President Bush's $150 billion “stimulus package” can revive the flagging economy or breathe new life into the over-extended US consumer. After Monday's sharp downturn, the prospects for averting a deep and protracted recession are slim to none..... Deregulation has annihilated the credibility of US markets. There is no oversight; it's the Wild West.  The assets are falsely represented, the ratings are meaningless, and there's a clear intention to deceive. That means that the stewardship of the global economic system is no longer in good hands. There needs to be a fundamental change. As the “nightmare scenario” of global recession continues to unfold; we need new leaders in Europe and Asia to step up and fill the void."
And there it is, George W Bush's ineptitude, arrogance and greed is not only bringing down the American economy, like every business he has been associated with, but also the global economy which bought into and financed Bush's economic pipe dreams.

I don't think so

I'm not picking a fight, but do question the assertions in your op-ed post. It has become so easy to blame George Bush for all that is wrong in America that he may be the greatest scapegoat in History. It is presently rumored that he actually started the Viet Nam war, personally planted the explosives at the 9-11 site, and caused the Packers to lose their playoff game.

What were our 540 members of Congress doing during the past 8 years? Were they taken in by the intellect and cunning of reportedly the dumbest man in the world? If so, why not save a lot of time and money by simply appointing a dictator? At least that situation would validate your claims.

Americans have little idea of how our government works and therefore are easily taken in by reporting such as your article. Most Americans have NO idea of how our economy works and therefore believe that it is possible that George Bush single handily brought a 232 year old nation to our knees in eight years.

That assumption is clearly misguided. I nearly detest George Bush, but education does not allow me to dismiss our current predicament as being the fault of one man over eight years with 540 innocent bystanders. That dog won't hunt.

COMMENT

That dog won't hunt.

That dog will hunt because this country has been run for the last seven years by the Bush/Cheney agenda ~ not America's agenda. Of course, Congress plays its role in this erosion of responsibility and moral integrity but the buck stops with Bush. It's Rivero's rule ~ All organizations and countries will eventually reflect the moral values and integrity of its leader. And Bush is a moral coward masquerading as a world leader.

Why not all of them?

It is without a doubt that policies promoted by this administration have been the flag-ship of disaster, and it would be wrong not to include a complicit congress.

But how can so many so-called educated leaders all be so wrong? Why are their polices seemingly hell-bent on destroying all that is suppose to be good for the people promoted? Does one lose all commonsense and ability to act rationally once they take an oath to office? It would seem so - or is it?

Keep in mind that power corrupts and those in power also have access to information most don't. Legislators are just people with the same survival instincts we all have. So place yourself in their position. What if you where to find out that the world as we know it is going to change dramatically shortly. That all resources to sustain life will become rare, food, water oil, medicine all scarce. Would you shout this from the floor of the House and create panic and be most likely ridiculed or worse? Or would you quietly and secretively put you and your family in a position where you will be among the lucky elite to survive?

This economic collapse was inevitable and calculated. It will not get better. Not next week, not six-months, not ever. While we struggle to survive as wars for dwindling natural resources will expand and about the time oil runs out look for a pandemic to sweep the world of the remaining population where only the chosen few will have to vaccine.

Our so-called representatives aren't as stupid as they seem. they're just trying to survive.

Of course!

The Cheney/Bush agenda has been at the helm of the country since SCOTUS enthroned them. However, they could not have pulled it off without a complicit Republican majority in congress, followed in 2006 with a complicit Democratic majority.

The chickens may not have been prevented from returning to the roost by the Democratic majority, but the Dem's initiation of impeachment proceedings would have stopped our executive criminals from waving them in.

Can't blame Bush

...because he's the carrot that's dangling in our faces while the real decision makers stand in the shade, smirking and counting their assets.

Wizards and Witches

I agree with Mike F. that dog won't hunt.  I am reminded of what the old China and USSR used to do to their old leaders when government policies became intolerably misguided and oppressive under Communism.  They would vilify the old leaders and sing the praises of the new.  In other words, the king is dead, long live the king.

It would be a grand victory indeed for those who pull the strings of Dick and George to see both of them retired in shame, while fresh stooge's are ushered into the White House.

Yes, they deserve blame and shame, but keep digging people.  While you try to drive a stake into the chest of the Wizard, the wicked witches laugh at your ignorance and gullibility.

MIKE

Rivero apparently never sat on the board of good company where the mission statement ruled and the board saw to it.

The mission statement of the United states is the constitution which Bush and Cheney have systematically shredded while a compliant and fearful Congress condoned these treasonable acts.

It's time to clean house and the first act is to cut off the double head of this poisonous snake ~ Cheney and Bush.

I'm not in disagreement with you regarding Bush and Cheny, but the title "Blame Bush" gives Congress a pass. They are equally if not more culpable. The House of Representatives has a specific job and that is to represent the people who sent them to Washington. Doing so with great forcefullness, even when contrary to the president's views, is what we should expect.
