Here is the most definitive story on the Tillman death told by a retired Delta Force/special ops soldier and a patriot ~ Stan Goff. Goff covers all the bases in unmasking a Pentagon, led by Rumsfeld, desperately looking for good news and willing to bury or kill any bad news as well as potential bad news ~ like a poster boy soldier publicly turning against the war and supporting Kerry in 2004: Allen L Roland

The first step in understanding the Tillman death scenario is determining motive ~ the rest then becomes obvious. The Pentagon was deeply involved in " Perception management " in 2004 ~ that is creating good news even if there was only bad news. As a matter of fact, they still are doing the same thing today. Remember Kissinger's famous quote ~ It's not a matter of what is true that counts but a matter of what is perceived to be true .

The Tillman friendly fire incident report was bad news and had to be triaged or as Stan Goff writes ~ " Someone who was not similarly tangled up would have to handle the Tillman episode for the moment, with only general guidance: no reports on fratricide, not right now, and turn this into something that re-kindles American patriotic feeling for the war."

Goff's long article is well worth reading and I share a telling excerpt which is most illuminating and reveals the full cast for this ignominious event which should be revisited by a hopefully deeply concerned Congress. Two heroes emerge , Pat Tillman's brother and mother who, like the 9/11 wives, relentlessly fought for the truth and brought an obvious cover-up to the surface ~ where both still lie awaiting their day in court.

There is no way to understand what happened once Pat Tillman fell on April 22 without tearing down that curtain, without rejecting the myth of legal “objectivity.”

On April 22nd, the day Pat was killed, Rumsfeld was chastising the press for not telling the public the “good news” about what was happening in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He said that because there was no good news… unless you were a partisan of the Iraqi resistance or an opium farmer in Afghanistan.

Lawrence Di Rita will be remembered, if at all, by history as the guy who was selected to publicly deny that there was any evidence available to the Pentagon that desecration of the Koran, including putting them in the toilet, was a regular part of detainee abuse in the Guantanamo Bay concentration camp.

Di Rita is the Principle Deputy Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs; but he is also one of Rumsfeld’s closest advisors, a veteran of the Heritage Foundation, one of the premier neo-con think-tanks leading the charge to invade Iraq. Di Rita is a very influential character. There is little doubt that he was intimately involved in the damage control over Pat Tillman being killed by fellow Rangers. Rumsfeld runs the entire Department of Defense; and Lawrence Di Rita is specifically assigned to the chief coordinator of Pentagon perception management.

“In the battle of perception management,” said Di Rita said in December 2004, “where the enemy is clearly using the media to help manage perceptions of the general public, our job is not perception management but to counter the enemy’s perception management.” This was Di Rita’s defense of the Information Operations Roadmap referenced in Part 3 of this series – the same program that replaced the Office of Strategic Influence, the first Pentagon program to plant false stories in the news as part of “operations.”

Our job is not to lie, but to tell counter-lies – the modern day equivalent of the Devil made me do it.

When Pat Tillman was killed on April 22, 2004, the stories about detainee abuse at Guantanamo Bay were already boiling over, and Di Rita was putting in a lot of late nights on this story. The four “civilians” that were killed and burned in the ambush at Fallujah were not having the desired effect of mobilizing outrage so much as they were drawing attention to the extensive use of brutal mercenaries by the Department of Defense.

When I first read the AP reports regarding the tight grouping of bullets that killed Pat Tillman, I assumed assassination at close range occurred. I was rabidly angry and pissed that the Bush Administration would again sink to such lows. I wanted to join a lynch mob.

However, after reading The Fog of Fame: Pat Tillman as everyone’s political football by Stan Goff, I am a morbidly relieved that one plausible and probable theory of how Pat may have died includes friendly fire where Rules of Engagement were abandoned. The very qualified forensics experts who were reported to accompany Dan Tillman and Stan Goff to evaluate photos agreed that a Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) was probably the instrument of death:

The only 5.56 mm weapon on the scene that could have placed those shots that quickly in the same place was the SAW… cyclic rate of auto-fire: 850 rounds per minute (14 rounds per second, ergo, three rounds in 2/10 of a second).

The account and the detail is convincing and riveting. Stan's account of the day leading up to the incident is rather long, but full of details apparently pieced together from many different sources. I find his vision and account of the day very plausible and credible. His voice rings true and honest, and my bull shit detector is fairly good.

I remain skeptical, but whatever way Pat Tillman was actually killed, I still think that the Bush Administration and particularly Donald Rumsfield need to be brought to justice for sending our soldiers into harm's way to kill and be killed for an illegal war started purposefully with HUGE TREASONOUS LIES!!!

I highly recommend this article to those interested in reading a highly credible and researched account into probable events surrounding the death of Pat Tillman.
