Tell A Friend

This will be brief. I have noticed that many important articles that need to be widely read are not being submitted to several of the Social Networking sites. As an example, I'll cite the article Who Will Hold The President Accountable?

This was an excellent article that needed to be read by as many people as possible, yet it was not submitted to "Reddit" or "Digg". I believed it was an important article, one that needed to be widely read, so I submitted it myself even though I was not the one that authored the article. It was an excellent article as evidenced by 49 "Reddit" points and 4 "Digg" points that is likely to increase as other people find the article and read it because of the high number of people who also thought it was a great article.

In short, if we don't use these Social Networking sites to increase the readership of important articles, we often find ourselves "preaching to the choir." Further, when we submit important articles to these sites, it also helps to create more traffic for Op-Ed News, and hopefully, bring in more readership to a site that I believe is extremely beneficial to the Liberal/Progressive community.

If you read an article that you believe is important and will help to further our cause by an increased readership, please take the time to submit them yourselves whether the author had the time to do it him/herself. The more traffic that we help to bring into Op-Ed News, it's also my hope that it will also bring in more donations, which are essential to the survival of a site that many of us believe is perhaps the best Liberal/Progressive site on the entire Internet.

We all are writing to further the cause of returning to our constitutional values and the rule of law, and increasing the readership of important articles helps to awaken what used to be a "sleeping America" who appear to be awakening from their slumber at a remarkable pace.

Thanks to all.

I am nothing more than a patriotic American that is doing whatever I can to further the cause of democracy, the rule of law, and am absolutely outraged on how the Bush administration is defying our Congress, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights! Footnote: I write in a style that I believe is appropriate in today's world where we can't trust the Mainstream News Media, and rather than concentrating on one article alone, which may or may not receive the exposure and emphasis it should, I prefer to meld several relevant stories together, that each taken alone may not expose the entire situation, but when taken-in as a whole, tend to give the reader a better understanding of the subject. One article or story alone does not represent the "Big Picture" - but when several are effectively tied-together it often reveals a trend or broader view of the subject matter that is important to completely understand any given situation. http://justanothercoverup.com/

A thought I didn't mention in the above Commentary

Also, if you read an article you like and believe it has social and/or political value, please take the second or two it takes to hit the "Plus" button on "Reddit" and if it's been submitted to "Digg", it will also help to help improve the readership of the piece by taking the time to perform both actions. I'm often guilty myself of reading a great article and forget to rate it; by rating these articles that are beneficial to the Liberal/Progressive agenda, we are guaranteeing that even more people will read that article.

Too often when a really good article is written and we don't rate it, others won't read it because it hasn't been rated very high - which often has nothing to do with the quality of the article, but a perception that "it's not that good" because it hasn't been rated well. By taking these few extra steps, we can help to guarante that the readership of Op-Ed News will increase and therefore help to spread our message to people that otherwise might not have taken the time to read the article.

Thanks again.

Priority for programmers

It strikes me that this is the kind of thing that can be done programmatically. While I haven't researched about the "Digg API," I would be surprised if there wasn't one with publicly available instructions for software developers. OpEdNews could or should automatically submit everything but the diaries to Digg. (While the diaries are usually good too, they are not vetted by editors. The rest of OpEdNews articles ARE vetted by editors, so if it's good enough for the site per site editors, it should be good enough to submit to Digg.) However, it would be for someone programming at OpEdNews to create the routine that automatically resubmits submissions (AFTER vetting) to Digg. So, it becomes a question of prioritizing this in the Inbox of whomever (Rob Kall?) does the programming for the OpEdNews site.

Auto-submission would be a boon, and it would be one less step and one less worry for authors here.

:-)

Or not

I just looked at the Digg API. It exists for reading (retrieving) Digg data, but not for writing (sending) Digg data. The API is about one year old -- it is still subject to expansion. For now, it seems to be "read only," but then again, if someone communicated with Digg's business office, there may be less-public API calls. In the context of an account or a business relationship, they may share more API. I bet that they've got it, someplace under the hood, because they have an internal need to write data into their database. I suspect that it exists, but not amid what is publicly published to the wider world.

digg api. OEN does it better

we looked into this and remember, each "digger" has to be a digg member and submit while signed in. So we can't do it automatically... well, we haven't figured out how to do it yet. Getting it started clearly requires interaction with the digg site and entry of one of those optical character items that prevent bots from using the site.

We have made the submission process easier than most other sites, filling in the title, description and URL automatically. All the user has to do is select the article category and go through the digg routine that requires human interaction. I'd like to know of any site that does it better than OEN.
