Evolution

Evolution

is a set of facts.
The theory merely
tries to explain
how they got like that.

Like the heads on Easter Island,
the facts are carved in stone,
bones and the fossil record.
The evidence is known.

But pretending the facts
are the things in doubt
is what Intelligent Design
is really all about.

It's a shell game that's played
with what is and isn't true.
And it's considered no sin
in the Crusade to Rule.

But it's only evolution's how
and why that's theorized.
Evolution is a fact.
It can't be denied.

The ad that came up alongside your article

was "Scientology: Get the Facts." Funny, huh?

And that is where the problem lies. When you claim the theory of evolution is a fact, then you leave the door open for any number of con-men to come along and fill in the blanks. You get things like Social Darwinism and Manifest Destiny.

Evolution, itself, has inherent flaws. Yes, over the years, creatures have changed and adapted into the animals we see today, but do we know what actually caused this? Not really. It is actually possible that most of the significant changes came within short bursts of "evolutionary creativity" (see Cambrian Explosion), perhaps brought about by catastrophes or some other major change in the Earth's environment. And "survival of the fittest" is also often misunderstood, as competition is revered over cooperation, despite the latter's extreme importance in survival. And if it was always all about survival, why did the single-celled organisms (which are still the most prevalent form of life today) ever need to develop into multi-cellular, complex, intelligent organisms? Evolution does NOT really explain why we are here. Nor should we want it to. I will leave that up to my own creativity, intuition, and ideas gleaned through conversation, medidation, and study.

Simply put, evolution was a step in the right direction for understanding ourselves and our world, but is a theory that is severely lacking and a bit misleading. And belief in it should not be our litmus test for leaders. Only a true layman would deride someone who does not accept the theory of evolution in all of its "glory." And maybe the theory runs into conflict with the established religions of our time, but fits in perfectly well with the Tao, Buddhism, and almost any mystical tradition. We should make sure scientific theories are never used to supress spirituality.

BTW, I enjoyed you work :)

Note to Ferdinand

Have you read the Seth books by Jane Roberts? Seth explains "evolution" very nicely. I think you would enjoy the series. "The Unknown Reality"set  is, as I recall, the one that addresses this issue.

Dear bull,

    Evolution, itself, has inherent flaws.

Please explain or at least show me a link to what it is that you are talking about when YOU say "evolution" as it is not clear that you have defined your term at all well.

I am very interested to see what your inherent flaws or even one of them might be in it too.

When you say "we" "don't really know" I wonder how wide you think that "we" is.  Could you really think that no one knows?  If so what is it exactly, one example would do, that no one knows about?

Yours in anticipation,
