Philadelphia, PA-

From a pamphlet I received, advertising a rally at Rittenhouse Square at noon on Tuesday, May 1:

On Tuesday, March 27th, 2007 at approximately 9:15pm a twenty-year-old Philadelphia native, Anthony Riley, was arrested in Rittenhouse Square for refusing to stop singing when officer Greg Wilkinson (6020) told him to "Shut up". Philadelphia City Ordinance 9-202 clearly states that an individual has the right to sing in any public place from the hours of 9am to 10pm. Riley spent 18 hours in jail for a summary offense (the equivalent of a parking ticket). As reported in the March 30th edition of the Daily News, when Officer Wilkinson was asked whether his job was to enforce the law or create the law, he was quoted as saying, "I create the law." When a concerned citizen asked, "Isn't this the United States of America?" Wilkinson angrily replied, according to witnesses at the scene, "This is Afghanistan!"
