Yearning for Zion Ranch: Religion Gone Bad

On April 3, 2008 the Yearning for Zion Ranch was raided in West Texas and since that time over 461 children has been taken into custody. What caused it all was a frantic call to Texas law enforcement from a frightened 16 year old of the cult who had been forced to marry a 50 year old man. She alleges that the man raped her repeatedly, impregnated her (she now has an 8 month old baby) and also beats her while his other wives look on. She thinks she is pregnant now and she wanted to save her sister from going through the horrendous ordeals that she has experienced.  Today law enforcement uncovered a series of locked vaults and a bed in the FLDS temple. Former members have reported that the bed was used by older men who would have sex with their child brides after marriage.

My only hope is that all people who are caught up in religious sects like the FLDS and are being abused and oppressed will find deliverance somehow. No one on this earth should be made to feel their life is worthless, their destiny pointless and their aspirations are sinful. In this age of growing enlightenment I pray that people will be delivered from the arcane ignorance that religions such as the FLDS propagates. Even if you have half a mind use that half to question and analyze what it is people are trying to lead you to believe. Always remember you don’t have to follow anyone, God gave you two feet to walk and stand on your own, and you have a mind to think for yourself and strong arms and hands to fight for your rights!

FLDS is a prime example of how people can take their right to freedom of religion and use it to oppress and hurt others. FLDS is not a new religion it is a break off from mainstream Mormonism going back to 1930.  Generations of women and children have been abused and made into mere sex slaves but worst of all have been made to believe that this is the life God meant for them. Grandmothers in FLDS have passed on to their daughters and granddaughters the importance of submitting to their husbands, having children and how if they don’t then they will be damned to hell and are breaking God’s laws.

Young women between the ages of 13 and 16 are forced to marry men much older than them and consummate their marriage. Texas officials report that some of the 461 children appear to be pregnant. Over 139 women have voluntarily left FLDS with their children and are now in custody of Texas social services and law enforcement. I feel sorry for these women who have been taught since birth that they are inferior to males and must submit to whatever they request. They can be moved from their households at anytime and made to marry another male in the church. The 16 year old who called Texas law enforcement told how she was beaten many times by her husband as his other wives held her baby and watched. What kind of religion makes people so afraid that they will watch another individual be beaten and not intervene? Think of all the atrocities that have happened to individuals down through the years in FLDS.

More appalling are the 400 or so known young boys from 13 and up who have been kicked out the FLDS to balance competition for the young girls. The young men are left on their own in Arizona and Utah with no source of funds, support, protection or means to survive. In my opinion the church and the families who cast these youth into homelessness should be held accountable for the suffering they must endure. I don’t know which is worse being cast into a world which you know nothing about and are taught is evil or having to live in a world where you cannot think for yourself.  The young men have been taught all of their lives that the outside world is evil and are not taught anything about our modern society or how we operate; trying to adjust is a total shock that leaves scars for life. FLDS tells these young men that because they are being cast out of the community they are damned to hell and worth nothing. The young men can no longer contact families, friends or anyone in the FLDS they have been excommunicated.

When religion goes bad people stop thinking for themselves they become brainwashed into believing almost anything and allow themselves to be violated. They are taught to obey their leaders, never to question and to accept their leader’s word as absolute truth. Warren Jeffs the former President and Prophet of FLDS taught the 6,000-10,000 followers that black people were evil and are cursed from God building racism. Jeffs warned members that laughter causes the spirit of God to leak from their bodies. He based this belief on an obscure statement by Joseph Smith. Members were banned from reading or even owning the Bible or any other religious or spiritual book.

When religions start to ban access to knowledge whether through books, internet, TV or even communicating and socializing with others outside of their flock it’s a red flag. The quickest way to enslave a person is through the mind, causing them to flounder in ignorance while you remain their only source of knowledge, keep this up and they will believe anything you tell them. Warren Jeffs and the other leadership of FLDS were able to persuade generations of young girls that their only purpose in life was to marry, have babies and tend to their households.

The more I learn about this religion the more disgusted with religion I become. Yes, I know not all religions are like this but many are not far away from it.

Church sexual abuse 'other' sects also

The Jehovah's Witnesses have settled  lawsuits alleging church policies protected pedophile men who sexually abused children for many years. Frederick McLean is one of the most-wanted fugitives in the United States

Sexual abuse has been rampant in a number of churches

The abuses described in this article are extreme, but it's important to underline that sexual abuse of young girls and boys is not specific to gurus and weird cults; it has been endemic in established churches, like the Catholic church.

all the boys and girls in my family went to catholic schools--most of my male cousins relate having been felt up by priests/teachers at sometime during the course of their studies. Interestingly enough, these Catholic schools seem to be the only place in the world were boys are more at risk of being sexually agressed than girls...Nuns could be sadistic, but at least they did not abuse us sexually.

A realistic look at religious history shows that sexual control--a prurient unhealthy interest in what happens in people's bedrooms--and sexual access to the people controled, is one of the standard goals pursued by  religious leaders in most religions--and definitely a trademark of the Catholic church.

What is it with Religion and Perversion?

You know the sad part about all of this is that the men in the FLDS have been taught since babes that their actions are approved by God and that God expects them to marry child brides and to be superior to women. They need help as much as the poor children.

The comments on this post have given me inspiration to research the connection between religion and sexual perverts.

As you all have pointed out this is not just about FLDS this is rampant in many other religions too. I know of two religions right here in Washington DC that practices polygamy but they do it undercover and from I have learned none of them are child brides.

Why twist the truth

to protect the fascist machine?  "a call was made to law enforcement" not true. The call went in to a violence center owned by baptists. There was no call, there are no charges against anyone. This is "pre-crime" police state tactics. It is a crime not to watch TV, to garden and to wear clothing that suggests modesty.

To all those jumping on the "protection" bandwagon, I hope it is your children next.

Why Not Face the Truth

I stand corrected the call was not made to law enforcement but still no proof exists to disprove that a call wasn't made. When you have freedom of choice as to whether you want to watch TV or not, whether you want to garden or not or even if you choose to wear a certain style or not, there is nothing wrong with this. If you are in some type of institution with these restrictions, that's a different story but when someone tells you that you can't watch TV in your residence, that you have to garden whether you want to or not and that you have to wear a certain type clothing and colors, there is definately something wrong here.

As far as " the protection" bandwagon for children you darn right I'm on it and I will ride it like a Bowing 747! The fact remains that for generations young girls as young as 12 are forced, not asked, not begged but forced to marry adult males and have babies. They never had a chance to pursue their own personal aspirations, to discover their own freedom they were tied down into a fanatical religious organization that only wants to see them lying on their backs or sweeping a floor.

IF you choose religion that's your right but it doesn't give you the right to hurt others, to rape children, to seperate families, to bilk the welfare system or force your twisted beliefs on others.

I cant use the "H" word,,,,

but a very unpopular German dictator took control of children and sent them to politically correct schools. I dislike organized religion, but I love the constitution. The Baptists are now state recognized as the "good" religion, and they made the accusation, picked up the kids and now have them under their control. And as for the underage part, for everyones information a minor may LEGALLY wed in Texas with the parents signature. Adult women and teachers make it with minor boys but I see no outrage. Politicians routinely have minors of both sexes, but the law enforcement covers up for them (see the Franklin Savings scandal) Dynacorp corp. runs a child prostitution ring under UN control, wheres the outrage. You sqauk and wail when girls are "suposedly" being abused when our boys and girls are sent to kill and die blown into pieces for the corporate government in Iraq.

When Child Protective Services notices your lawn is not properly kept or someone reports that you screamed at your child let us not hear complaints when the machine has you in its sights.  No indictment is needed now, no charges need be filed. The state is now GOD and those who fall in line and accept this flagrant violation of the constitution will soon see that right now Mormons and illegal aliens are the targets but they will move on to other "suspicious" citizens.

The TV speaks and the sheep follow blindly. Had it ever occured to you that the criminals in this little drama might be the state of Texas and their federal state trooper goons ? These are militarized FEDERALY funded goons enforcers of the new world order.  These are the kind gentlemen that will confiscate everything you own with fabricated evidence and put you in a hole to rot.  So keep your nose clean and dont talk back to these little gods, it will get you tasered or shot.

One small note of correction

From what I know of LDS theology, there is no "hell" as described elsewhere in Christianity. However, there is an eternity of knowing that you are the lowest of the low, among murderers. (FLDS may have a different view, but I would expect theirs to be similar to mainstream Mormonism's.) In order to be excommunicated, murder or apostasy will do. The latter can be achieved by denouncing the Church in public. I doubt those 400 abandoned boys actually murdered anyone or publicly denounced the FLDS. They probably just disagreed with the elders.
Thank you for reporting what you have learned about this shocking case! I look forward to seeing your website when I get another spare moment. (Gotta go garden!)
