(Enter Ghost and Hamlet.)
HAMLET
Where are you leading me? Speak, or I'll stop.
GHOST
Listen then.
HAMLET
I am.
GHOST
You'll be bound to revenge.
HAMLET
What?
GHOST
I'm sentenced to walk the night, and fast in fires to burn
and purge the sins of a life. There are things forbidden to
tell, but I have something else .
HAMLET
Yes, oh spirit, speak.
GHOST
You must revenge my murder.
HAMLET
Murder!
GHOST
Murder most foul.
HAMLET
Give me wings to sweep onto the backs of revenge!
GHOST
A snake bit me while I slept in my garden, but the serpent
that struck, now wears my crown.
HAMLET
Oh my prophetic soul! I knew it!
GHOST
Yes, with a silver tongue a beast seduced the Queen. From
the virtue and dignity which went hand in hand since the day
we exchanged our vows, to the lust--
