If you happened to see the ABC Evening News Friday, March 16th, you saw the network run a story about the movie, The Secret.
By now, you've most likely heard about the hit movie and book, which teaches people about the Law of Attraction and our ability to use our mind to manifest what we want in our life.
ABC, in keeping with the tradition of negative reporting and special interest pandering that has become the norm in network television news, did their best to discredit the philosophy of The Secret, referring to it throughout as simply, "Positive Thinking."
For starters, the Law of Attraction, which is the basis of the movie, is not simply positive thinking. It is a universal law that like attracts like and has been referenced in every religion and philosophy for thousands of years.
"Whatsoever you ask for in prayer, believe you have received it and it is given unto you." Matthew 21:22
"As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he" Proverbs 23:7
"Our life is what our thoughts make of it" Marcus Aurelius (121-180)
"A man is literally what he thinks" James Allen (1849-1925)
"We are what we believe we are" Benjamin N. Cardozo (1870-1938) (Excerpt Handbook to a Happier Life, page 27)
The fact that like attracts like and that we attract what we focus upon has been proven by quantum physics, however, ABC News chose to parade out a couple of "experts" who were clearly clueless about these principles and did their best to discredit the movie's lessons. Would they discredit Jesus too?
In their story, reporter Dan Harris, leading with the phrase "Truly Dangerous," has Columbia University Medical Center Professor, Richard Sloan commenting about a woman curing herself of breast cancer with laughter and visualization - a technique used successfully in many cases for decades by leading oncologists. Professor Sloan revealed his own ignorance of the subject when he referred to people affirming "Not having breast cancer."
Anyone who understands the most basic idea of the power of the mind knows that one would not even bring the word "cancer" into their awareness. They would affirm "health." Talking about something, whether in the positive or negative, brings the vibration of that into your awareness. Wanting "bills" or wanting "no bills" is still the energy of bills.
In the case of health, one would affirm health, however, this does not negate taking preventative measures, including diagnostic testing. That would be just plain dumb and none of us who teach these principles would ever suggest that.
One can only assume that calling The Secret "dangerous" has more to do with the threat a healthy population poses to the Drug Cartel sponsoring network television.
An earlier news story this same week, reported a 55% increase in prescription sleep aids. Is anyone fool enough to believe that many more people had trouble sleeping? Or is it a result of the massive increase in television advertising for prescription drugs?
This, by the way, is a practice that would be illegal were our government agencies not bought and paid for by the pharmaceutical industry.

To me, the idea is still freeing your mind. Being present. Knowing what you know and don't know. Becoming aware of your beliefs as opposed to your certainties. KNOWING where your information comes from and how it is processed by "you". Tracing your urges and impulses.
Last but not least, knowing the voices in your head. distinguishing between your own voice and the voices or thoughts of others.

I spent last evening reading the background on this author at his web site. I found his story to be facinating and encouraging. And especially admirable, his efforts to share his secrets of success with those who are less fortunate and hopeless. Take time to investigate before you pass judgment. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Finally Jim Donovan has given me the solution. All I have to do is think omnipotence, omniscience and eternalness and I will BE omnipotent, omniscient and eternal.
But wait! If I have all those qualities, it'll all be my fault. Oh well. Back to the drawing board.
