Female Black-chinned Hummingbird

When the heart achieves its desire you shall transcend time and space ~ for the hearts desire is to love so deeply that it becomes a fragment of life’s heart: Allen L Roland

Once there was hummingbird who loved being a hummingbird ~ delicate wings vibrating to a higher level of consciousness ~ but her tiny heart longed to expand and become a fragment of life’s heart ~ perhaps it was the pull from another lifetime but, nevertheless, it was a deep longing which she could no longer ignore.

One day she saw a magnificent Eagle soaring on a wind current high overhead . She was awed by its beauty and freedom so she closed her tiny eyes and wished with all her heart that she too could fly free and see what the Eagle sees.

The eagle was happy soaring in the wind and already knew he was a fragment of life’s heart and could see so clearly . He was wise in the ways of the heart and impeccably trusted the unknown ~ for he knew that the unknown was often a loving plan at work.

But he also sensed something was missing ~ perhaps something precious that he had forgotten on his eagle's path.

As he joyfully soared in the morning sky he felt the Hummingbird’s call and it came from a garden far below him . He loved these inner calls because it reminded him that he was still part of something far greater than himself ~ so he slowly descended to the garden.

A gardener was lovingly pruning roses in the garden and watched in awe as the Eagle gracefully glided down and settled on the garden fence.

Why is this Eagle here ?

What is it trying to teach me?

The Hummingbird felt the Eagle’s presence even before she saw him and when she opened her tiny eyes ~

there he was staring at her less than ten feet away.

The gardener suddenly realized what the Eagle was looking at  and was about to shoo him away when something inside told him to be quiet and watch ~ for he also knew the ways of nature and trusted the wisdom of the loving plan.

The Hummingbird’s heart was filled with fear and terror but she also felt the Eagles warm, loving and caring heart and something inside told her to trust it so she slowly moved toward him ~ conquering fear with each movement until she was only a few inches away.

The gardener could not believe his eyes and watched in amazement for it appeared that they were communing with each other.

The Eagle told the Hummingbird that his giant heart was greatly touched by her innocence and beauty ~ that it touched a deep chord within him and reminded him of the same innocence and beauty that he once felt as a young eaglet leaning how to fly. Then he asked why she had called him ~

She told him the many secrets of the garden and how her  pollinating and nectar feeding had given her a glimpse of a larger loving plan ~ and that her deepest wish was to love so deeply that she would become a fragment of life’s heart and, like the Eagle, be able to see through the heart.

The Eagle’s great heart was deeply touched and he told her to climb onto his back and he would take her to a place she had never been before ~ a place where she would transcend time and space.

She didn’t hesitate, sensing that this was her destiny, and climbed upon his back and nestled into his feathers as he slowly spread his wings and ascended into the morning sky ~ her heart fully opening as they climbed higher and higher while he felt wondrously completed for he was now not only seeing through his eagle's heart but also through a precious hummingbird's soul.

The gardener watched in utter amazement realizing that he had witnessed another miracle of nature ~ a miracle that had something to do with love for his thoughts immediately went to his wife who was a precious and magical gift in his life.

And at that moment, he smiled and realized the gift the Eagle had taught him ~ that in the kingdom of nature the mighty and the small are all equal and are all perfected when they conquer fear and surrender to love.
