I Admit it, Sarah Palin Makes Me Nervous by Joan Wile Page 1 of 1 page(s) |

I got calls from other Obama grannies in my group, Grandmothers Against the War, equally worried about McCain's cataclysmic bombshell announcement. I had a very unhappy couple of days as I imagined the defeat of the Democrats at the hands of this pretty young Hockey Mom. The only negative I could discern was when I heard her speak in her shrill, piping Valley Girl voice. This didn't comfort me much, though, as I am a singer, much more aware and concerned about vocal tones than most people.
But, then, as the revelations about Sarah started to roll out, I began to have a little hope. Would the Hillary legions support a woman who was anti-abortion to the extreme, even, of condemning it for victims of rape and incest? Hard to imagine. Next, we learned of her fidelity to the creationism theory. Would any Democrats go for that? Would Independents? By the very nature of the word "independent," it is hard to imagine that they would subscribe to a belief out of the dark ages.
Well, I won't go on and on with the long litany of her conservative sins. But, they have relieved me a little bit of my nervousness about her. I tell myself that surely the American women are not cajoled into voting for this person who holds positions and beliefs so contrary to what I assume most women outside the Bible Belt hold, who if elected with John McCain, would be so on the brink of being President.
We couldn't be that dumb, could we?
On the other hand, we elected George W. Bush to a second term.

Palin scares me too.
Comment from Ratings: I am not a singer, so am not as aware of voice tones as you probably are, but...her voice is grating to say the least. It's like listening to Joe Lieberman...just plain irritating...thanks for posting your article by russ king (0 articles, 0 quicklinks, 0 diaries, 4 comments) on Saturday, Sep 6, 2008 at 10:21:37 PM

Reply: more about her voice
I shouldn't complain about her irritating voice, because God knows Eleanor Roosevelt had an awful one, but her great character and wisdom made it irrelevant. But, when you put a grating voice together with a woman holding insufferable values and espousing dangerous policies, she is unbearable to listen to. I thought it was just my singer's sensibility, but other non-singer friends and the reader's comment seem to verify my revulsion when I accidentally hear her speak -- I never seek to, God knows. by Joan Wile (8 articles, 0 quicklinks, 8 diaries, 25 comments) on Saturday, Sep 6, 2008 at 11:45:01 PM

No...the last two elections were stolen
Its not accurate to state that we elected Bush twice. In my observation, both the 2000 and 2004 elections were stolen. There is a great deal of evidence to document this but the mainstream media don't practice journalism anymore, preferring to serve their corporate masters. We have one of the most corrupt political systems on the planet. I fully expect the current election to be stolen as well. We are already sunk, just don't know it yet. The only two real issues before us are Media Reform and Election Fraud. All the rest is just for show. by Abraham007 (6 articles, 36 quicklinks, 2 diaries, 54 comments) on Sunday, Sep 7, 2008 at 2:41:12 AM

Reply: I know, Bush wasn't elected
I know. I realized my mistake and have tried to change it, but navigating the system of OpEdNews to do a revision requires rocket scientist intelligence. I can't seem to figure it out. I want to change my last line to "On the other hand, we elected Geoge W. Bush to a seond term." Not quite what you have in mind, maybe, but makes my point, I think. by Joan Wile (8 articles, 0 quicklinks, 8 diaries, 25 comments) on Sunday, Sep 7, 2008 at 9:24:19 AM

Reply: Bush lost both elections
I submit he was never elected. The Supreme Court stopped the Florida recount in 2000 and appointed Bush president. A news media consortium later counted all the ballots and reported that Gore won the popular vote in Florida. This was independently corroborated by the University of Chicago in their recount of Florida's ballots. Then, he outright stole the 2004 election in Ohio. Below I produce a brief bibliography of evidence just regarding the 2004 election that supports this assertion: by Rady Ananda (182 articles, 374 quicklinks, 49 diaries, 1718 comments [201 recommended, 2 rejected]) on Sunday, Sep 7, 2008 at 12:39:39 PM

Reply: re Bush;s elecrion or lack thereof
I recognized my mistake and changed my last line to one asserting that Bush was elected once only -- to a second term. I acknowledge the arguments of the writer and believe it to be true in a sense. But, I NEED MY LAST LINE TO MAKE MY POINT THAT AMERICANS ARE STUPID ENOUGH TO ELECT MCCAIN ON THE BASIS OF HIS VASTLY UNQUALIFIED RUNNING MATE AND ON HER DANGEROUS NEO CON BELIEFS. However, I'm glad I have provided an opportunity for two readers to clarify the fact that Bush was not LEGITIMATELY elected either time, and I appreciate your comments very much. by Joan Wile (8 articles, 0 quicklinks, 8 diaries, 25 comments) on Sunday, Sep 7, 2008 at 12:58:18 PM
