Beneath pre-emptive
warfare theory
lies a theo-ideology
declared heretical
in Christianity's early centuries -
Manichaeanism -
us and them.

It divides the world
simply and starkly
into good and evil
and bids the former
to stamp out those
designated the latter people.

While appealing in its simplicity
it's disastrous in reality.
Early Christians deemed it heresy
because it blinded people to their capacity
for evil and self-deception.

It's the basis for justification
of greed, hubris and human misery
and an outlet for unprovoked, ferocious
attempts to prove the doubtful virility
of a chicken hawk, draft-dogging gaggle
of effete corporate ass-kissing jerks
without the requisite stones it takes
to get down and do their own wet work.

- Vi Ransel

Vi's works appear widely both in print and online. She conducts Poetry Workshops and gives readings in Central New York. Her latest chapbook is "Sine Qua Non Antiques (an Arcanum of History, Geography and Treachery).
