Consumers Union
Last week, I emailed you about Not In My Cart, our new campaign urging Congress to strengthen product safety and import laws before anyone else gets hurt.

So far Consumers Union activists have sent 170,991 messages adding their voices to this urgent call for action, but we need to turn the volume way up to make sure Congress gets the message.

The holiday shopping season will begin in just a few weeks, yet we still have a long way to go before we can trust the safety of the products for sale on our stores' shelves.

More than 20 million children's toys have been recalled this year, alone! Thomas the Tank trains, Winnie the Pooh play sets, Cub Scouts merit badges, and many more items have already been pulled from shelves across the country.

More dangerous imported products may be sitting on the shelves of stores around the country right now. But will they be caught before they are bought?
Congress has taken some first steps--investigational hearings and initial bill proposals--but it won't be easy to get real protections through Congress quickly.
Will you join us in holding Congress' feet to the fire by helping us send 250,000 letters by Friday, October 26th?

The dangerous combination of lax safety regulations, a lack of enforcement, and a shortage of federal inspectors will only lead to more recalls.

Once you've sent your letter, please forward this email to your friends and family and ask them to join you in taking action at http://www.notinmycart.org/.

Thank you again for your help in keeping Americans safe from dangerous products this holiday season and beyond.
