Kucinich to Attend First Democratic Debate in Nevada by Nadia Goodenu Page 1 of 1 page(s) |

As many Kucinich supporters from 2004 know, Dennis received very little speaking time at the debates, however when he did get a chance he impressed the audience with his no nonsense straight talk on the issues Americans care most about. Take for instance this audio on the War in Iraq. Many of the Democratic Candidates in this race either voted for the war, even co-sponsored the Iraq War Resolution in the case of John Edwards, or continue to support this war by voting for the funding, enabling Bush to continue the assault on the people of Iraq as well as making it possible for Bush to use our troops to attack Iran. This is not supporting the troops. The troops want to come home, and the Iraqis want us to leave. When will we give the Iraqis the democracy we promised and leave like they ask us to? I hope these questions are brought up at the debate.
Another important issue that needs to be addressed giving equal amount of air time to each candidate is Universal Health Care. Many of the candidates are offering Universal Health care as part of their platform, however their version includes the ever present insurance companies as part of the solution. As Kucinich has illustrated with his bill in Congress HR676, in order to save billions of dollars, the insurance companies need to be taken out of the equation. This bill already in Congress is offering Medicare For All, free medical care, dental care, vision care, mental health care, alternative medicines and long term care for all Americans. Imagine how many Americans need this right now. How many lives would be saved, bankruptcies prevented? I hope that the fact that this bill is already in Congress comes out in the debate because if the American people realize that there is a real possibility of our Congress passing this before the 2008 election, they will contact their congressperson and ask them to sign on with the other 52 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives. Please listen to more on Health Care from the 2004 Democratic Debate.
The Corporate media chose to focus on likability in the 2004 debates and it is up to us to make sure that this election season is about the issues that are important to the American people. Listen to this audio about likability from the 2004 debates or watch this video from the debates with Larry King. We the People need to tell the Corporate media that this type of brainwashing is unacceptable. We need to tell the Corporate media that this time, we will decide who his electable based who speaks for us, who works for us. The Corporate media has lost their credibility by supporting the war in Iraq based on lies, and they continue to spread propaganda about Iran when all intelligence points to the fact that Iran is not a threat. Intelligent Americans are now turning to the internet to find the truth, and we need to use it to our full advantage. Spread the word through videos, audios, fliers and whatever you can think of to catapult the truth over the propaganda. If you are in Nevada, show up at the debate in support of Dennis. The debate will be held at Noon, Feb 21, 2007 at the Carson City Community Center(851 E William St
Some feel that the upcoming presidential election is a distraction from the here and now, but I feel we should use the national debate to bring attention to what can be done right now. Congressman Dennis Kucinich has a ten-point plan to get our troops out of Iraq now. He is working on cutting the funding to the war in Iraq. Everyone should contact their congressperson and ask them to vote NO on the upcoming supplemental appropriations which would help fund a war in Iran as well. Congressman Kucinich has a bill in Congress right now that will provide Universal Health Care for all. Contact your Congressmen and ask that they support HR 676. Our Democracy requires all thinking Americans take an active stand now.

KY House endorses HR 676
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Kentucky House adopts resolution urging Congress to enact HR 676 Frankfort, KY, February 10, 2007. On February 7, 2007, the House of Representatives of the Kentucky General Assembly passed a resolution calling on the U.S. Congress to enact HR 676, the National Health Insurance Act. HR 676 introduced by Congressman John Conyers would implement a single payer plan to provide health insurance coverage to everyone in our country While support for a single payer system (government-funded, privately delivered) is growing nationwide, Kentucky is the first state to issue such a strong endorsement. By voice vote without dissent the Kentucky House of Representatives adopted HR 81, sponsored by Representative Joni L. Jenkins (D-44th, Jefferson County). The resolution directs the House Clerk to send a copy of the official document to all six members of the Kentucky Congressional delegation as well as to President Bush. In the 2006 session, a similar resolution was reported favorably out of the Health and Welfare Committee--with bipartisan support. Seventeen legislators joined Rep. Jenkins as co-sponsors, but the resolution did not come before the full House for a vote. In Kentucky approximately 582,000 people lack health insurance, and the state has raised fees in its Medicaid program despite making extensive overall cuts in benefits. Resolution 81 cites a 2003 Harvard University study which found that the state spent roughly 4 billion dollars on unnecessary bureaucracy, an amount more than enough to provide coverage to all of Kentucky's uninsured and to improve care for those now covered. The full text of HR 81 is on line at http://www.lrc.ky.gov/record/07RS/HR81.htm Representative Joni Jenkins can be reached at (502) 550-3604.
