"Gangsta" Ole Party Strikes Again

                             Min. Paul Scott

The NC Carolina GOP has revealed its latest masterpiece...

An attack ad attacking Rev. Jeremiah Wright for...

No, that's not it...

An attack ad attacking Obama for...

No, it's actually an attack ad attacking gubernatorial candidates Bev Purdue and Richard Moore for not attacking....

Rats!

Anyway, the "Gangsta" Ole Party has this clip on youtube beggin' folks to give money to put a 30 second commercial that says that Obama is "too extreme" for North Carolina on the air ...

(I'm not sure if I'm more upset over the attack on Obama or that they just called me and the rest of my Tarheel homies a bunch of wusses...)

It looks like the GOP is up to their old fear and extortion tactics again. The ad, which features the new black boogey man, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, delivering one of his firey speeches is supposed to start airing April 28th.

(That is, if the NCGOP can find a station desperate enough to run the ad.)

Even the top don of the GOP, John McCain has tried to call off the NC goons but to no avail.

The thing that really burns my britches is; how can a party that is supposed to be so darn "family value-ish," continously use such gangster tactics that would make Al Capone blush ?

Now, I know that the GOP has deep pockets and could probably have the ads in heavier rotation than those annoying Alltell commercials that come on every five minutes...

So, what's an average dude who's tired of the strong armin' to do...

I have a novel idea. I'm gonna start a one man "Black Out" Protest and turn off my TV for 30 seconds every time the "extreme" ad comes on...

I am concerned about the intentions of our elected leaders.

Why a concerted Black Out protest would work.

"I have a novel idea. I'm gonna start a one man "Black Out" Protest and turn off my TV for 30 seconds every time the "extreme" ad comes on..."

I've tried that. What actually happens is that about 80% of the time I find something more interesting on another channel and stay there. Broadcasters know this, and a significant number of listeners or viewers threaten to do that it will definitely cool their enthusiasm for the spot.

Another thing to note is that, even if the NC GOP never plays the commercial, Limbaugh and Hannity, and probably half of the cable "news" channels are saturating the airwaves with it . Hannity has literally been playing it every five minutes throughout his radio show. If viewers and listeners all over the country call or email their local TV or radio station telling them they plan to do this each time it is played in any format it will get their attention. I think this would actually have a more chilling effect than the threat to "never listen to you again."

It is time, and this is likely the only way to stop the swift boat fiasco from playing out again. After all, there are as many hard-core progressives out there as hard-core Bush/McCain whatevers, and among the rest of the population the ratio is shifting our way daily. We should have some significant clout.
