US Atty. Biskupic Praised Before Being Buried-Almost

Steven Walters has the latest on US Atty Stephen Biskupic.

In his Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel blog, Walters notes that new documents written by his DoJ bosses praise Biskupic, begging the question of why Biskupic was placed on the US Atty kill list, and why Biskupic’s office subsequently conducted numerous bogus prosecutions that favored Republican partisans.

“ … Biskupic was praised by his Washington, D.C., bosses for anti-terrorism work and convicting prominent Milwaukee-area politicians Gary George and Paul Henningsen in 2004 - months before he was reportedly added to a list of federal prosecutors who should be replaced, documents showed today.

“The letter was one of more than 100 pages of Justice Department documents requested by Wisconsin's two U.S. senators, Democrats Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold, that were made public today. The senators have asked for Justice Department documents on Biskupic's decision to charge a now-exonerated state purchasing official, Georgia Thompson.

“The praise of Biskupic in late 2004 deepened questions about why senior Justice Department leaders months later added his name to a list of U.S. attorneys who should be replaced for not putting enough emphasis on the priorities set by President Bush. Some Republican leaders had expressed concern that Biskupic had not been aggressive enough in prosecuting election fraud. Although eight federal prosecutors were later replaced, Biskupic was not.”

Time for Josh Marshall to issue a nolo contendere on the criticism of his stance that credible sources vouching for Biskupic’s character ought to lead Marshall to conclude that Biskupic has clean hands in his many bogus prosecutions.

“These people don't necessarily know the specifics of the case in question. But they know Biskupic. And they vouch for the guy's character and reputation. They say they know him and he just would never do something like that. … But given what I've heard and given the highly circumstantial nature of the case, I'm inclined to believe, until I hear more evidence to the contrary, that Biskupic himself has clean hands in all this,” wrote Marshall.

After reading Bill Lueders’ “Biskupic tried to 'squeeze' Georgia Thompson,” and the latest revelations deepening “questions about why senior Justice Department leaders months later added (Biskupic’s) name to a list of U.S. attorneys who should be replaced for not putting enough emphasis on the priorities set by President Bush;” what say you now Josh Marshall?

One thing is certain, Biskupic's victims don't care, they are just trying to put their lives together.
