Founder of the NC Coalition for Verified Voting. We passed a law to require VVPB on August 2005 after years of work. NC Coalition for Verified Voting is an all volunteer organization that does not solicit or accept donations.
NC AG says WVWV broke the law w/ robo calls You shouldn't back away from honest reporting just because some people complained. If you fail to report this story, then you have failed to warn other states who may risk a similar fate. WVWV didn't slip up, they broke the law. The state police in Virginia investigated their actions there. There is plenty of documentation, so while this may not please some people because there is a political element to it, its as real as the problems with paperless voting, except in North Carolina it happened to thousands of people. AG: Recent Robo-Calls On Voting Info. Are Illegal They also like to mail voter registration forms out right after the cutoff in other states, like Orgeon: Group Missed Oregon Primary Deadline, Too As an update to my earlier post on the Women's Vote Women's Voices calls, we can show you an example of the voter registration packet the group has been sending out. Thanks to TPM Reader PC, here is a mailer received by a reader in Oregon, one of the 24 states (pdf) where the group has sent mailers. As even the mainstream media is admitting something is wrong here, that there is a pattern of this organization ignoring state's laws while interfering in the voting process, I find it odd that you apologize for putting the news in your news. Don't you want to protect the other states from Womens Voices, Womens Votes? What do you consider partisan? Is it ok to talk about voting machines being rigged for partisan reasons, but not ok to talk about voter supression tactics for partisan reasons? Even NPR covered this: Dubious Robocalls Made by Group with Clinton Ties NPR Harper Magazine: North Carolina “Robo-callers” Exposed This story has legs, and the more its investigated the more we find other states affected by this organization. WVWV also mass mails voter registration forms without regard to whether the person is already registered. This ties up our election officials with extra work. WVWV has 16 truck loads of mailers ready to go out in North Carolina - that has to be costing them a fortune. Imagine being an election official flooded by these registration forms, many for people already registered to vote. That takes up time that could have been spent processing legitimate registration forms during the busiest time of the year. by
