This is Gary DeVaney. I personally salute President Hugo Chavez - and I'll tell you why.
Condoleeza Rice talked down about Hugo Chevez's address to the United Nations. She kinda described him as a low-life that was a poor speaker and less than a President. His address did not deserve commmentary in her view.
I predict that Condoleeza Rice will prove to be insane in a few years. GWD
I saw Hugo Chavez as surprisingly charismatic and articulate with the assistance of his female translator. Just think, this country boy addressed The United Nations - in my opinion better than the seasoned 91 IQ of George W. Bush. I was impressed with his demeanor and his to the point, accurate content.
Hugo Chevez is not a high-brow. What he said - other than George W. Bush being Satan - was rational and accurate. I credit him with educating the World and getting his points across. I'm surprised he didn't include the fact that a former presidential candidate, Pat Robertson, wanted him dead. I'm surprised he didn't expose that he's been approached by the World Bank's Economic Hit-Man with a terminal deal that he couldn't refuse.

Representatives of the governments of the world, good morning to all of you. First of all, I would like to invite you, very respectfully, to those who have not read this book, to read it.
Noam Chomsky, one of the most prestigious American and world intellectuals, Noam Chomsky, and this is one of his most recent books, 'Hegemony or Survival: The Imperialist Strategy of the United States. '" [Holds up book, waves it in front of General Assembly.] "It's an excellent book to help us understand what has been happening in the world throughout the 20th century, and what's happening now, and the greatest threat looming over our planet.
The hegemonic pretensions of the American empire are placing at risk the very survival of the human species. We continue to warn you about this danger and we appeal to the people of the United States and the world to halt this threat, which is like a sword hanging over our heads. I had considered reading from this book, but, for the sake of time," [flips through the pages, which are numerous] "I will just leave it as a recommendation.
G: The US government, The Bush Gang, is placing at risk the very survival of the human species. Impactive!
It reads easily, it is a very good book, I'm sure Madame [President] you are familiar with it. It appears in English, in Russian, in Arabic, in German. I think that the first people who should read this book are our brothers and sisters in the United States, because their threat is right in their own house.
G: I'm happy to see Noam Chomsky get the well-deserved plug on his bold work.
The devil is right at home. The devil, the devil himself, is right in the house.

Trivia - Who do you recognise?
I have to thank you so much for posting the speech. Your added commentary was also wonderful.
I was happy to know that anyone, anywhere would stand up to DUBYA and call him on the carpet for all he has done. To know the content of Chavez's speech makes it all that better. I hope that the international community takes what Chavez said to heart.
The American criminal needs to be prosecuted. There is no other way for our country to get rid of its imperialist image.
And you are so right, Hugo Chavez looks like a true Rhodes Scholar in comparison to the My Pet Goat reading moron who now inhabits the White House.
Blessed be!

Chavez may not be highbrow (he has publicly called Bush an "asshole", and said the euqivalent of "screw NAFTA"- pendejo and ALCA AL CARAJO, respectively,) but he also one of the most brilliant strategists on the planet. Let's not forget he is a Lieutenant Colonel. He knows perfectly well people would not stop talking all week about it. What did the president of India say? Who knows? Was he even there? But Chavez made headlines around the world. Not only that, but he put forth a concrete program to save the world from destruction. No country in the world is ever going to look at the US adminstration the same since that speech. In 20 minutes Chavez punctured Bush's hype and pomposity and shown him up to be what he is--a deflated, pathetic little man. Talk about the emperor's clothes.

If so why do you find it unnecesary to debate with your own opinions, refuting that with which you disagree with logic, fact and source material?
Why do you post nonsense that demeans only yourself and actually strengthens the words of the author by portraying his opposition as moronic and sophomoric?

You know, when I first began posting, I was under the impression that the people who wrote comments were at least capable of thinking, or perhaps even debate.
In reading some of the comments here, and those attached to a few other articles, I am starting to have my doubts. I now wonder if some of these folks can even string a cogent thought together without falling into the Fox News-like practice of ignoring reality, and sinking to name calling and other less than debate-worthy tactics.
Carpet burns, "Don't forget to zip Hugo back up when you're through"? What kind of ignorant nonsense is that? That's not debate. That's not expressing an opinion. That's the kind of thing I'd expect to see written on the wall of a public restroom.
Mr. DeVaney, if that's the kind of response you get from people, you will have no problem at all looking like a total MENSA member in comparison. In all the comments I have seen under this article, not ONE person has made a statement in refuting your article that isn't juvenile in some form or fashion.
Kudos to you, my friend, and keep up the good work!
Blessed be!

Their world does not stand up to careful and thoughtful analysis, thus all they can bring is sophomoric insult and off topic rant. I know I should just ignore them as irrelevent but they are so easy as targets and so shallow as opponents that it actually does our cause good to have our opposition exposed as worthless, dontcha think?

Firstly, as the title said, I can only pity them. If there is any blame I can affix to them, I blame them for not putting their time in school to better use than writing the word "fuck" on bathroom walls.
You are very right in saying that they do a great service to our cause. They show that far too many people in this country aren't willing to use their brainpower to learn, they only want to use it to be "cute".
But, I think that the author of the stunningly cogent comment entitled "Sir Hugo" goes one step further. Not only does he (I assume he's a male) prove that he has the brain of a duck, and the sensibility of a high school freshman, he also proves his own latent homosexuality.
I have found that those who make blatant references to male homosexual behavior are tortured closet cases. The line, "don't forget to zip Hugo back up when you are through," clearly is meant to imply that the writer of the original article is gay. However, the illustrious author of the comment in question also showed his hand. Much like Jerry Falwell's desire to wear a Tinky Winky or SpongeBob costume while taking one up the ass, joree47 has unwittingly told us that he has a secret desire to pull down someone's zipper and go to town.
This is the kind of thing that really makes me glad to have lame-brained twits of his ilk make commentary. They show their ass so well, they don't realize not only how stupid they make themselves look, but how many skeletons they drop out of their closets in the process.
Blessed be!
