KUCINICH CHARGES THAT AMERICAN MEDIA OWNED BY MILITARY CONTRACTERS ARE BIASED AND SUPPORTS HIS CLAIM by ALONE Page 1 of 1 page(s) |

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (Ohio, Democratic Party Candidate for President) argued fairly successfully on the Voice of America (VOA) program , Press Conference USA of VOA News Now, this past weekend (Nov. 17, 2007) that the American media is biased against him and its campaign. This, he claims, is why he is not running at least 3rd or 4th in Democrat election polls already. When called on the claim by a commentator, Kucinich pointed out quickly that he was the only serious presidential candidate who had not been invited recently to NBC’s Meet the Press. Earlier Kucinich had noted that this great media bias against his campaign was reflected by the obvious fact that a major defense contractor, who (of course) profits from war, owns a major news network, NBC.
Dennis Kucinich is the only major presidential candidate who was in Congress or Senate in 2003 and voted against the war in Iraq and all the financing for it.
Kucinich also voted against the US Patriot Act and is against the emphasis on labeling millions of peoples illegals “as though they are lesser humans”.
NAFTAKucinich suggests that NAFTA and other trade deals have not only worsened the job situation of Americans but, in fact, led to a massive migration northward in lands where labor unions and labor rights enforcement are weaker than in the USA.
In short, Kucinich claimed that many of these “illegal migrants” were forced to flee their homeland due collapse of job market and increase in inflation related to NAFTA’s inception.
This is why he has severe reservations about keeping NAFTA and other trade agreements, i.e. if labor is not protected in the USA and abroad better.
WAR—NOT AS PRIMARY POLICY INSTRUMENTKucinich also made clear that besides having maintained a record of voting against non-democratic actions of the current White House, he has stood soundly for cooperation with other states to fight rogue elements around the world.
However, he added that this did not involve invading and taking over whole states who had not attacked America.
Kucinich said this in clarification to the insinuation made by one of the VOA interviewers that he didn’t want America to fight if attacked.
“No”, Kucinich explained, he felt it was very important to take out al-Qaida camps in Afghanistan but not necessarily to take over whole uninvolved regions and peoples, such as the rump of Afghanistan and all of Iraq—which definitely had no Al-Qaida elements in 2003.
MEDIA OWNERSHIP According to a 2004 review, “Viacom, the owner of CBS, is the second-largest media company in the country. Disney, the owner of ABC, is the fourth. NBC (as a division of G.E.) is the fifth. However, MSNBC, has an even wider audience as a major internet news service provider. It was General Electric which Kucinich was referring to—but not by name—on Press Conference USA . General Electric is not only involved in shipbuilding but in many facets of arms development and the development of technologies to manage them.
Kucinich was reminding radio listeners and the VOA that access to these media powers determines the messages people receive from their news broadcasters---including the viewers’ and listeners’ access to good information on presidential candidates in a fair way. I'm sure Dennis just didn't discover this ...
... and I'm equally sure a majority of people will continue to be played for fools by said Beasts of War that have ravaged the mind, spirit and soul of humanity. Even the most intelligent will be fooled if all they ever hear are lies. If you aren't aware of just how important control of the message is by now, there's hope for you. It is near impossible for the truth to seep to the masses though today's Gate Keepers and Control Masters. Does this mean there is a "conspiracy" afoot? Again, if you don't know the answer to this question you are a victim for sure. You bet your ass there is. Of course DK is the best man to have as president, and if he looked more like Clark Kent than Barney Phife, I feel sure the Beast would have Wellstoned him lone ago. (All respects to the Wellstone family - another truth speaker, cut down for doing so) The people that need to hear the truth the most aren't stupid. Even the dimmest of bulbs get we're being lied to and are starting to ask why the absence of accountability for those that put us in this horrible mess is being passed on to them? If it weren't for the Net ... nothing could pierce the control of the message. But the sad thing is even I could go to the local pub right now and most likely find 4 out of 10 people will tell you that Iraq was somehow involved in 9/11. ah, well ... someone please explain to me why I should keep on trying ... by Mr M (8 articles, 0 quicklinks, 66 diaries, 2845 comments [654 recommended, 27 rejected]) on Saturday, Nov 17, 2007 at 4:50:52 PM

Yeah, to keep trying is just common sense--as the person below your message comments, but I know also that our education system and our nation's parents could do a lot more to help educate people into (1) reading between the lines & (2) overcoming dependence on one media source No, Dennis didn't just catch on, of course, to all this. However no American in their right mind should watch FOX news for their political info--yet on some evenings 30 to 40% get their news info this way. Others get it from Pat Robertson's network. Keep working on linkages so this war with Iran doesn't realize itself--and support as I have a twin--Richardson/Kucinich ticket for 2008 by ALONE (196 articles, 1 quicklinks, 7 diaries, 557 comments [5 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Saturday, Nov 17, 2007 at 10:10:41 PM

And so far I believed I was the only one who supports a Richardson / Kucinich ticket. The problem I see would be in getting one of them to agreeing to be VP. by Dave Kisor (0 articles, 0 quicklinks, 1 diaries, 315 comments [40 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Sunday, Nov 18, 2007 at 5:45:48 PM

OK - here's a question for Kucinich fans -- Since Dennis is
very experienced in dealing with the media by now, he knows perfectly well how they try to marginalize him. He knows all about the scum like Russert who ask him questions about UFO's in an attempt to make him look like a moonbat. He knows all about the Blitzers, who interrupt him in mid-sentence and only let him talk 5 minutes in a 135-minute "debate." So, why doesn't he prepare a little bit of very hot oratory, to use the next time a Wolf Blitzer tries to shut him down? For instance, when Russert asked him about UFO's, he could have shot back, "Tim, why are you wasting the public's time with a childish question like that, when we have war criminals in the White House, and the Constitution is being violated on a daily basis?" Or when Blitzer rudely cut him off the other night when he said a single sentence about impeachment, he could have said, "Excuse me Wolf, I am one of the candidates here -- and YOU ARE NOT. I am speaking about willful & extensive violations of the US Constitution here, and this subject is far more important to the public interest than anything you have to say. So please keep quiet until I've finished telling the public something they have every right to hear." Why does he not do this? Why is he willing to be slapped around by these assh*les? by Richard Mynick (2 articles, 4 quicklinks, 1 diaries, 1552 comments [255 recommended, 5 rejected]) on Saturday, Nov 17, 2007 at 8:15:07 PM

Reply: The answer is almost as simple as it is complicated...
Two words or should I say one person is your answer...Mike Gravel. I've thought the same as you have, but seeing what happened to Gravel, but seeing what happened to him with all his brashness, it's almost like biting the hand that feeds you. |

Reply: didn't get the link, but
You may want to resend the link. I just thought, with this news report, I'd see some Americans encouraged to demand that NBC (and MSNBC) get Kucinich on before the end of the year or first week in January. I think the public can and should demand fairness, especially now that Kucinich has thrown down the guantlet to General Electric and NBC. by ALONE (196 articles, 1 quicklinks, 7 diaries, 557 comments [5 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Saturday, Nov 17, 2007 at 10:20:34 PM

Oh, he was ready and came out slinging on Press Conference USA played on VOICE OF AMERICA here in the Middle East and around the world to military and other ex-pats. He didn't let anyone shove words or distract him that day. (However, Kucinich came across as bitter--which doesn't sell well unless you look like BULL-DOG dick cheney and already own the president of the USA.) by ALONE (196 articles, 1 quicklinks, 7 diaries, 557 comments [5 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Saturday, Nov 17, 2007 at 10:15:06 PM

Reply: Absolutely
What you're looking at is biased show it's not there to tell people anything it's entertainment. and russett doesn't care about fairness so long as he gets the rating that's the basis of his pay quantum. DK needs to be more of a leader show strength not aggression or else he'll be seen as DC type. The problem with the two retorts are that there's a personal attack in them. By all means attack the unprofesional questions or interuption not the person above all keep cool. The problem as I heard it is that the story is that DK is shoning signs that he's defeated. That's because of the way he attacked. by Andris (4 articles, 0 quicklinks, 0 diaries, 531 comments) on Monday, Nov 19, 2007 at 2:07:11 AM

Reply: Voice of America and NPR
Voice of America and NPR aren't the same thing if that what you are referring to, but I do agree mostly what you hear in the ways of hourly news reports on VOA is a slanted and seems to ape American media giants. It sometimes seems as biased as FOX. On the other hand, free discussions can be on either side of the spectrum. more interesting is when VOA music stations play john lennon's WAR IS OVER HAPPY XMAS in December. We need some Corporate Restrictions
Or when Blitzer rudely cut him off the other night when he said a single sentence about impeachment, he could have said, "Excuse me Wolf, I am one of the candidates here -- and YOU ARE NOT. I am speaking about willful & extensive violations of the US Constitution here, and this subject is far more important to the public interest than anything you have to say. So please keep quiet until I've finished telling the public something they have every right to hear." That would have been nice. I think you are right. That was an opportunity to emphasise the point. The requirment to get the job is to be able to place a dream in the minds of the majority of the voting public. The Corporate money issue received play from Edwards and this media ownership issue are very important also. This country needs a major reformation to reduce the extent of Corporate influence. by Sleeper (1 articles, 1 quicklinks, 15 diaries, 312 comments [6 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Sunday, Nov 18, 2007 at 1:36:05 PM

Reply: CFR or CPR?
http://www.cfr.org/bios/9730/dennis_kucinich.html?groupby=0&page=1&hide=1&id=9730 I agree that Kucinich looks pretty good when you look at this evaluation by CFR. Now, I didn't know what CFR you were referring to because CFR is a federal regulatory acronym, annnndddd-- I'm ponderingcreating a party or umbrellas coalition myseld called CPR (copyright Kevin Stoda 2007).
