Count Dracula was a staunch Orthodox Christian. He skinned adulterous women and then impaled them on stakes to die slowly by exposure. As the King of Wallachia, he defended the Christian Hungarians against the Muslim hordes of the Ottoman Empire. A clever tactician, he scorched the earth on both sides of Danube on the Muslim advance. His forces captured 23,000 enemy troops and impaled them on trees. The forest of screaming captives discouraged the Muslims from further advance.

Trial by Legislature

As Rachel Maddow notes, the Congressional bill defunding ACORN appears to be both unconstitutional, and incredibly hypocritical, given that other, still-federally funded organizations --- such as Halliburton, Blackwater, and many, many more --- often receive far more federal funding in a single day than ACORN has received during the organization's entire lifetime.

Furthermore, those other organizations, which still receive billions from the U.S. government, were found to have committed actual crimes, such as millions of dollars worth of fraud, have been charged with murder and the deaths of U.S. troops, and even involve child prostitution and sex slavery!

If the ACORN bill can be applied to 600 offending defense contractors, why should they go unpunished for massive fraud, murder, wrongful deaths of U.S. troops, child prostitution and sex slavery?

More recently, why should health insurance executives be allowed to cause the wrongful deaths of 44,000+ uninsured citizens per year? Read the flimsy denials of Michelle Malkin.

Every year, more than 44,000 Americans die simply because they have no health insurance.

"I have created this project in their memory. I hope that honoring them will help us end this senseless loss of American lives. If you have lost a loved one, please share the story of that loved one with us. Help us ensure that their legacy is a more just America, where every life that can be saved will be saved."

Rep. Alan Grayson D-FL

Michelle Malkin has called the 44,000 "a phantom number" as if no one had died. She says that Grayson's memorial "is full of vapor." She claims the study published this year in the American Journal of Public Health "is infused with left-wing politics."

The study upon which the 44,000 estimate is based began in 1988 and continued through 1994 the researchers relying on self-reports of the 9,000 participants. As a representative sample of the US population, the 9,000 person study should give statistically valid results.

The federal Centers for Disease Control tracked the deaths of people in the sample group through the year 2000. Himmelstein, Woolhandler and company then crunched the numbers and attributed deaths to lack of health insurance for all the participants who initially self-reported that they had no insurance and then died for any reason over the 12-year tracking period.

Malkin jumped on two admitted faults in the study. The subjects were queried only once about health insurance status. Later, the researchers found that between 7% and 11% reported they lacked health insurance when they indeed had it.
