Brains can remain flat-line for serious thinking; easy to understand, not confusing, no heavy lifting (read as research) required, emotions rule.

Last evening — Saturday, March 21 — CSPAN ran a broadcast of Thursday night’s “Media Research Center’s” Dishonor Awards” ceremony. It was a highly conservative — admittedly an oxymoron — presentation the exclusive purposes of which were 1.) provide conservatives with a “There, there” mommy hug and pat on the back to reassure them that they really were a special breed; and 2.) to mock, belittle, disparage everyone to their left.

Although it was hard to stomach, the capstone of the evening — a compilation of clips from Jay Leno’s “Jaywalking” clips provided humor and horror, neither of which I needed additional servings of. Nonetheless here are just three from the montage:

Jay: “What are the branches of the federal government?”

Respondent: “There’s congress, and, let me think — There’s parliament, and,” she looks heavenward for a few seconds, in search of the third, “Oh yeah . . . the executive.”

_

Jay: “How many terms can a president serve?”

Respondent: “Two.”

Jay: “Has any president ever served more than two terms?”

Respondent: “I think Kennedy.”

Jay: “How many terms did Kennedy serve?”

Respondent: “I think four.”

Jay: “Then what happened?”

Respondent: “He was shot.”

Jay: “What the name of the person who shot Kennedy?”

Respondent: A long pause, then a sheepish and embarrassed grin, then finally, “Aaron Burr, I think.”
