Why are we here?

Why are we here?

It is an age old question. But it is not the same as, “What is the meaning of life?”. I just want to address why we are here. “What is our purpose?”.

It is my philosophy that God had created the Heavens and the Earth. Not surprisingly, I think many other's will agree on this. God created light the first day too. I believe that with everything there is in Heaven and on Earth, God created. And therein lies the answer.

It is apparent that God could take the time to make everything, but why not have someone do the work for him? Perhaps there were a lot of spirits hanging around and God put them to work. Work was a gift to these spirits for it gave them a chance to become physical. The spiritual side of us as humans (perhaps the light or water is used to “explain” this) can be the avenue for which God instructs us to do his work. Because the spirits (Angels perhaps) each have a different personality and hearts desire, it is what gives us our “free will”.

God says he divided the light from dark, the water from land. Could light be our spirituality and dark be our physicality? Is the division of water from land used to explain the same thing? Or, is this God's way of telling us where we came from? If so, we now have why and where.

I think it is telling that water is everywhere, in solid, gas, or liquid form. It is in the air we breathe. It bridges the spiritual to the physical. We cannot synthetically make or clone water. Yet, it is molecularly simple. And as for the land, it is much easier to see that our bones, our hair, and everything physical about us only grows when it is fed physical matter. I believe the DNA we have is simply our software program. We need to blink without thinking. I think this program (DNA) is what makes us different from a robot. We are merged from 3 forms at the beginning; Our spirituality (water), our physicality (atoms and molecules), and our DNA (our God given software program to keep us running in good order – physically).

God has work to be done. We are here to do it. We are here to do the physical work of the spiritual realm. Yes. That is my answer. Why are we here? We are here to do the physical work of the spiritual world. And if we do well and succeed, I have a feeling God will give us more work to do. And this is a gift. I am sure there is more to this theory I have; Explaining Love, Adam and Eve, Good versus Evil, why we were given Free Choice, and etc. I'll just leave that to all of the other philosophers out there. I need to get back to work. God's watching.

Peace Out, Gary Ruff

PS I do wonder if our DNA (genome) is directly connected to our spiritual side, the water. Obviously it is of physical nature. Or is our DNA separated completely from our physical and spiritual sides? Perhaps I was wrong in stating we were derived from 3 forms, and maybe the clues of the first day lead us to seek 4 forms? We cannot change our past, and we are guiding the future from our split second time we call “the present”. Are we the ones guiding our future, or just going along with the plan? There are some real interesting questions to this theory.

We will either survive until the sun envelopes the Earth in millions of years or we will prematurely expire having carelessly and needlessly forfeited the future of the unborn for the mere accumulation of things man-made. An unemotional, instinctive creature would never have done this.

I completely disagree

I think that article is complete asinine and devoid of all reason. I'm an agnostic and everyone really is agnostic because no ones knows these answers. Religious people present what they hope for as fact. What kind of logic is that? Hope=Reality? Give me a break. All signs point to there being no conscious afterlife or afterlife at all, unless you count the continued existence of your atoms as existence.

We have to get over our fear of death and the unknown if we are ever to transcend the human condition. God does not care what we do if there is one. Is that not patently obvious? I'm black and if God permitted slavery on purpose then I hate god but god didn't. Europeans did it and not for some mysterious purpose that we will find out later as part of God's plan. Europeans did it because they were lazy and saw blacks as inferior. They still do to this day despite the millions of black people that continue to disprove their false supremacist beliefs.

I am an organism on this planet that evolved with a higer state of consciousness. I only have a short time on this planet and want to enjoy life as much as possible without harming the planet for future generations. I will not sit back and do nothing in the false hope that there is a heaven awaiting me. If there is a heaven wouldn't god keep that a secret anyway? Why would it tell us that knowing that people would immediately sit on their butts and wait for the end? Also people immediately start trying to earn their way to heaven instead of being since altruists, which may not even exist in humanity. When people know they are getting a reward in the future what do they normally do? Nothing. It's like a kid waiting on his trust fund or a lottery winner waiting on that year's annuity payout. Most humans do as little as possible and god would consider that, not expect great things from all of us knowing that most of us are average.

Running in good order?

If God's DNA program was meant to keep us "running in good order," it has failed miserably.  God missed it badly on designing parts of our bodies, like teeth, backs and hearts that give out before the three score and 10 warranty period is up.  We need to get the Commerce Committee in Congress to have God do a recall and fix these faulty designs to meet the guarantee period.

I've studied theology and its relationship to government for many years. A few years ago I stumbled upon the web site of an author who I felt was on the right track, and I've monitored it since then. Now I feel he has finally gotten the message highlights complete. I believe, very deeply, that the message he delivers will actually change and save this world. It's what everyone needs to hear. It's Symbolism and Allegory

Here's how Joseph J. Adamson puts it in the beginning of an article titled, Evolution vs "Chreationism""

The six day creation story in the first book of the Bible is an allegory. It is a very short and beautiful allegorical explanation of how the world was created. In the beginning it was meant to illustrate that God is the Creator, and the rest of it was meant to demonstrate how man disobeys God when he indulges in judgmental egotism and thinks he is a wise judge of what is good and what is evil — when he ignores God and tries to play god.

In that respect it is much like the creation stories of many other religions and cultures, containing great wisdom and great advice, and yet portraying magical events that are the stuff of myth, fable, and fantasy. They were not meant to be taken literally, but to give us a concept and an idea of divine power and intent.

That is why I do not understand why the American Christian Right insists on reviving the old Scopes Trial argument for "biblical creationism" against the scientific theory of evolution. I can only conclude that they think that if they thump their Bible long enough and hard enough, their "godless"opponents will be vanquished and "God’s Word" will prevail.

The trouble is, they do not know what the true Word of God really is. In fact, their argument simply does tremendous harm to religion, because they focus on man-made doctrines and dogma which forces a biblical allegory to compete with common sense and be compared to science. That just makes no sense and it is entirely inappropriate, not only because there should be a wall of separation between church and state, but because real biblical truths are actually compatible with science, and the allegorical "creation" story was never meant to be taken literally.

That’s why their argument is so feeble — even more feeble today than when it was shot down seventy-five years ago in court during the Scopes "Monkey Trial" (read the play or see the movie "Inherit the Wind").

Of course, at that time a conservative and biased "Bible-belt" judge and jury heavily favored the "biblical creationism" argument, and they decided in its favor in spite of its being ridiculed and thoroughly discredited in court. But the conservative judge and jury’s stubborn denial did not reflect real religious devotion, and justice was not served by it. Indeed, the moral victory in that trial (as portrayed in the play and movie) was won by the argument for evolution and against the absurdity of inappropriate and misguided biblical literalism.

A similar trial held today in most places would result in a resounding victory for evolution. In fact, most educated and reasonable people now realize that evolution is how God created the world. Surveys have shown that 83 percent of the population say Darwin’s theory of evolution belongs in the nation’s science classes, and 70 percent don’t see any conflict between the Bible and evolution. Most Americans see evolution as science-based theory and biblical creation as a matter of belief. They believe that the two are not mutually exclusive, and that evolution is indeed God’s method of creation.

That is self-evident and born out by clear and undeniable scientific evidence. And while there may still be some good Christians and Jews who sincerely believe in the story of creation in the first book of the Bible, the presumptuous political argument for so-called "biblical creationism" pushed by the Christian Right is just a blatant demonstration of arrogance and religious bigotry. After all, they can believe whatever they want, but in trying to force their beliefs upon everyone else (including trying to force changes in public school curriculum), they are betraying the principles their religion was founded upon, and they are going against the very Constitution of the United States.

Quoted from: http://reformationcomingsoon.bravehost.com/Evolution.html

He goes on to explain exactly how and why evolution is how God created the earth, and dispels the "Creationism" myth.

Arkie Philosophy 101

We are here so that we will always question why we are. For if we knew why we were here, one of the greatest mysteries of our existence would be answered and we would forever more lament the fact that it was revealed to us. Or, looking at it slightly different. We are here to debate with each other why we are here, because everone loves a good argument.

Evolution and the Bible are incompatible.

It is fine that people have their own views of the world. Good for them! It just isn't necessarily what fits the facts. The Bible talks about animals and plants created for their places in life, immutable. Such is evolution discounted there. Tell me where the Bible says anything in any way about life changing to changing conditions. Or the fact that the earth is 4.5 billion years old and life is some 3.8 billion years old and that we have had 5 massive extinction events. The closest we get is the great flood which really doesn't explain anything but opens a whole host of more problems. However evolution does not really show how life first formed except that the building blocks will form on their own impetus. Go to the chemists for that.

In a recent Harris Poll, only 13% accepted scientific evolution as a reality. The rest had some vague mixture of evolution and Christian creation violating both or just Creationism. Showing their lack of knowledge of either, I might add.

Why are we here? A question only we can ask to the wind or to each other. A nonsensical one to be sure. We simply are to reproduce and survive or become extinct as some 99% of all life before us. It is up to us to find our place.

Questions are a burden to others. Answers are a burden to oneself.
LevonQuestions are a burden to others. Answers are a burden to oneself.

my take

from my fifty years of wandering on this planet this is what i have deduced. the universe is a machine whose sole purpose is to create enlightened beings, who in turn help other beings to become enlightened. the way to accomplish this is to live a life of compassion, loving kindness, and selfless devotion to others. and this is easier said than done.but we have the examples of many who have come before us who have shown us the way if we would but hear.

If we knew...

We sould not accept it. We are here to provide for others just like the animals are here to provide for us. Look at the food chain, everything is there for soemthing else, except us??? Give me a break. Everything is perfectly understandable if you get rid of the egocentric view.

We are food for the gods. Animals have no soul, only emotions and instinct. Man supposedly has a soul, emotion and thinking. We are the bridge between physical and spiritual and I dont mean religion. It is the most awkward place to be. An animal lives and dies without thinking. A spiritual being lives without choice (angels) ony man must suffer the animal and the spiritual together and the ability to think why he is here.

Someone said, we are here to feed the moon. Google it and take a journey of discovery.
