When it comes to the McCain/Palin ticket, the new 'L' word is lying

In a previous piece I went on the attack when it came to the speech Mitt Romney gave to the Republican convention as an opening act for Sarah Palin.  In his speech he denigrated the word liberal and blamed liberals for the problems that society is facing today.  Mitt Romney was a liar and I proved him to be so in that piece. He is not the first to have done that, nor will he be the last.  I have said before to segregate people and trash them for their political beliefs is not a unifier but a divider.

As Sarah Palin travels with John McCain rehashing what she has done in Alaska a saying comes to mind, “A lie told often enough becomes the truth” Yes, Palin is flat out lying to the American people and we should equally tarnish her for telling such lies instead of allowing politicians to tarnish those who are of one political persuasion namely liberals.  In my opinion lying, liar and lied has become the new ‘L’ word.

We have seen the devastation lying can bring about when Bush invaded Iraq who had nothing to do with the attacks on 9/11.  To this date, over 4,000 soldiers have lost their lives due to a series of lies.  The L.A. Times at one point reported that one million Iraqis have died and brought out in many pieces written by me of this heinous war.  Those innocent Iraqis died because of a series of lies perpetrated by the Bush administration and supported by John McCain.

Now this is what Sarah Palin opines of the Iraq War as cited in this column which appeared in the Christian Post titled, Palin: Pray U.S. Plan in Iraq is God's Plan, “Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God," she said. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan."

I do not know about you…But before Bush invaded Iraq, this is what the late Pope John Paul II had to say to George W. Bush, “You go without God”.  I would tend to believe the message coming from the late pope.  As a practicing Catholic, he was the leader of my church.  That is all I will say on this, but will address religion in politics in another column.  But, to Palin don’t you dare tell the American people that God had a plan or has a plan in all of this.  Remember free will?

In this article, Why people lie a point was brought up within the piece, “Lying often works because people don't stand much chance of getting caught. "It pays to lie on your resume," says Ford. "That's why people do it. It helps them get jobs." First of all when it comes to the vice presidency, we should not give the job to Palin because of her lies.

Her lies were caught and called so as Rachel Maddow sat in for Keith Olbermann this past Friday on his show Countdown.

This is what Maddow had to say, “We’re going to go out on a limb here on COUNTDOWN and call them “lies.”  We’re also going to call the repeated telling of those lies, “lying.”  The charge that Senator Obama authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform—lying.  Senator Obama wants to raise your taxes unless you happen to be a corporation or the richest 1 percent of all Americans—lying.  Senator Obama has never worked with Republicans on bipartisan legislation—lying.” She went onto say, “Senator McCain repeating that particular line on the stump today in Wisconsin.” It is not only Palin who has lied but McCain as well.

Quite frankly, do we really need another Republican administration who can lie to the American people?  Will the American people allow for bald-face lies to be told to them without checking out the facts?  Oh, I forgot that this campaign is not supposed to be about issues where what is said of those issues needs to be fact checked.

In that piece, Why people lie you will read, “Sometimes a liar goes unchallenged because the lie serves someone else's purpose.” Well with Sarah Palin being isolated by the McCain campaign where she is now only scheduled for one interview with ABC’s Charlie Gibson, she cannot be challenged to the many lies she has already told to the American people.  The purpose it serves is to make sure that the Republicans have four more years in the White House.  I do not know about you, but eight years is ENOUGH of being lied to.

When Maddow asked, "Does debunking not have any political impact anymore?  Is there no political risk for telling things that are demonstratively untrue about your opponent?" To me that is the $64 thousand dollar question. Do Americans care if they are being lied to?  You would think so.  For lying us into a war which is now costing we the tax payers $10 billion a month, you would think from coast to coast, Americans would have screamed for Bush's impeachment; Cheney's too.  But, they did not even when the truth came out.

When John McCain cited in his speech, "Fight for justice and opportunity for all…Stand up to defend our country from its enemies. Stand up for each other, for beautiful, blessed, bountiful America…Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight…" Americans should have done that when the lies that brought us into this war were exposed.  By not standing up, so many have died.  There are many empty seats at dinner tables because of those lies.  Lying is the enemy of any democracy.

For those who read this and are parents, our golden rule for our children is not to lie and come clean if they have told a lie.  Well what about politicians and those aspiring to be the next president and vice president?  Do we hold little Johnny and little Jane to a much higher standard than McCain and Palin?

Maddow again brought out more lies told by Sarah Palin when she said, "So, she sold the governor’s plane on eBay, except when she didn’t.  She was against the Bridge to Nowhere, except when she was for it.  She was against wasteful spending, except when she took earmarks.  Just who is Sarah Palin and what is she for?" Lies, lies and more lies being told to the American people, yet she cannot be challenged.

The Beaufort Gazette ran a column, Biden to vigorously challenge Palin on issues and one item caught my attention as I read, “Thursday in response to a question from a woman who attended his forum on national security and veterans issues in military-heavy Virginia Beach. The questioner said she realized it's tricky for a male candidate to debate a woman but implored Biden to "please promise me you'll go after her the same way...."

My advice to the Obama/Biden ticket, women have fought for too long to be treated equally and the same goes for women who choose to enter public life.  Lives depend upon her being equally challenged.  Palin has stated how she went up against the good old boys when it came to the oil industry in her state and I do think she can handle the pressure.  I would say to Senator Joe Biden, handle her like you would had McCain picked a man as his running mate.  As a woman, I have no problem should Senator Biden call her a liar straight to her face.  If they the Republicans can attack my political beliefs shared by many others, they should be equally attacked for allowing their candidate to lie to all of us.

This lying business

Is becoming an art. I have heard it said many times, that if you tell a lie often enough, and long enough, everyone will eventually believe it. The Republicans are very consistent in their adherence to this theory and practice and the American people are exemplary in their actualization of it.

Some days I think we are doomed: for over a week, Sarah Palin has publicly uttered the same lies, over and over, about her silly bridge and her objections to earmarks, while the press and the blogosphere has widely proven both claims to be false...er, lies. But the practice persists, almost hourly.

Can we possibly be this collectively numb and stupid?
