What America must do to survive!

The recent events of the past few years have shown in no uncertain terms that our Government is unable to function as a team to get the job done. This failure is across both parties and in every aspect of every department including the Military.

The failure of the Bush administration to handle Katrina to the point that Canadian Mounties horses and all made it to the coast before our own troops who were just a few miles away. The unchecked greed that allowed Wall Street to package junk debt as good investments that will cost our great-great grand children trillions to pay off the bailout. Boarders that look like Swiss cheese yet are supposed to protect us from terrorists and bombs getting into the country, let alone control immigration. And now we have the Gulf Oil "Spill", where corporate greed and "payola" to inspectors may quite literally affect the entire planet if not controlled.

Greed, corruption, lying, deception, disassociation with responsibility, laws that protect the criminal and not the victims, dysfunctional people in charge who can't make a decision because of fear of the legal ramifications if they are wrong, sociopaths encompassing the Congress, White House and especially the Courts who's only concern is "How is my image" in the media, are just some examples of how this country has become The Greatest Dysfunctional Nation on the face of the Earth.

In the 2008 Presidential Election the cry was for "Change". There was no cry to change a black man for a white man, there was no cry to change a republican for a democrat, the cry was for the change of how this country operates from the White House on down. The cry was for people to actually do their job and not just collect a taxpayer paycheck. The cry was for change that benefited We the People not Wall Street and Corporations. In every aspect of the demands of the American People's cry for change have been ignored and discounted. "But we got Health Care!"

You got nothing because the way the law is written, the health care companies will profit even more and the only change between now and when the law takes effect is that you are now mandated to have healthcare or you will be fined. Eventually you will be in jail because you can't afford to pay the premiums or the fines because you don't have a job.

So how do We the People Change this? We must take control back of our Government, period!

The control of this Government must now be put directly into the hands of the People. While the structure that our founding fathers put into place is still the best, the people and the system itself are corruptible because the We the People have no oversight ability. We have relied for over two hundred years on the "good men and women" that we elected to office to "represent" our wishes. That chain is broken.

Today it is not the views of the people that your local/state/federal representative casts his/her vote for, but those of lobbyists and special interest groups. Ninety percent (90%) of those organizations are in most part in direct conflict with the views of the majority of Americans. How do we eliminate this?

Technology today is a wonderful thing. That technology can be used to connect every household to every representative for direct interaction on the matters at hand. From there the will of the people can trickle up the food chain and America will be in control of the country once again. It will also eliminate corruption because the elected representative will be required by law to vote as his constituents voted or will face life in prison.

How it would work is as follows:

Each representative would have a web site where the issues affecting your community can be posted for reading including the actual bill and the synopsis of that bill with the pros and cons including the ability of the reader to comment.

Next, local citizens based on the voting books would be able to vote online yea/nay on the issues. This would be set up as modern Corporations hold their stockholders voting. It would allow safe and secure voting with accountability.

Our Representative would then take the vote of the people and under penalty of law vote as instructed

What are the pros and cons of this approach?

Technology aside, as it could be made secure in many ways, one Pro is that We the People would be in charge of our Government once again, but this is also a Con as a whole lot of people are idiots. While it would be great on local issues as most people are somewhat informed, on national issues, while some are straight forward votes, some are very complex issues that one part of the country may not understand. Example: While everyone is horrified by what is happening in the Gulf, if it came time to help them rebuild and tax dollars are needed, as I am sure they will be, the people of the north would tell the south sorry. That would not be right to do but when it comes to ones wallet, this is where "help" breaks down. Under those circumstances, a national disaster fund should be available and used.

Another Pro will be the employment that will be generated by this. Technology, staff and maintenance would all be handled on a local level to employ the people involved in the local community. There is much more but let's leave that to open discussion.
