Multiple sources are reporting that Anthony Weiner will resign at 2:00 PM EST today.

According to the NY Times, after discussion with his wife, and under heavy pressure from Democratic leaders, Weiner will formally announce his resignation this afternoon.

Nancy Pelosi had threatened to take away all his committee appointments.

President Obama had said that if he were in Weiner's shoes, he would resign.

The US has lost a stalwart progressive-- certainly a far from perfect man, but one of a very few with the courage to stand up to the darkness that threatens the future of America.

We can only hope that the interim replacement who is appointed has even a portion of the guts and progressive ideals that Weiner possessed. It is sad that the man was riven with the character flaws that led to the demise of his career.

What are your thoughts?

A few declarations.
-While I'm registered as a Democrat, I consider myself to be a dynamic critic of the Democratic party, just as, well, not quite as much, but almost as much as I am a critic of republicans.
