Veterans For Peace will deliver a petition supporting the impeachment of President Bush to Rep. John Conyers on Wed., June 11, and intends to conduct a sit-in in his office until he agrees to meet with them.

"By invading and occupying Iraq, the Bush administration every day violates legally binding international treaties and domestic laws," VFP Executive Director Michael McPhearson said in a written statement. "Congressman Conyers and his colleagues must hold them accountable and our Constitution prescribes how: impeachment. It's not enough to simply watch the Bush administration retire. Unless we hold them accountable we and Congress are complicit in their war crimes and put U.S. soldiers at risk of retaliation."

VFP collected 22,000 names on a petition supporting the impeachment of Bush. Members said they tried for two months to get a 10-minute meeting with Conyers, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee.

More calls for impeachment

VFP members from New York, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio and the District of Columbia will take part in the sit-in. VFP President Elliott Adams cited numerous impeachable offenses committed by the Bush administration including: violating domestic laws; binding international treaties and the U.S. Constitution by condoning torture in Iraq; and violating the Geneva Conventions, U.N. Charter and resolutions, the Nuremberg Principles and the Laws and Customs of War on Land.

Adams, a  former Army paratrooper and Viet Nam combat vet, provided Conyers a copy of the VFP "Case for Impeachment" that documents claims of war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes against peace committed or encouraged by the Bush administration. He also included a video CD of testimonies selected from the Iraq Veterans Against the War's "Winter Soldier" hearings held in March.

Winter Soldier Hearings

Adams asked Conyers to "not sit on the sidelines or be a keeper of the status quo like those who stood in your way when you demanded action for what is right. The time for justice is always now.”

"Having taken an oath to defend the Constitution 'from all enemies foreign and domestic,' our members take the obligation to impeach George W. Bush most seriously. We must hold this administration accountable for waging a war of aggression against Iraq."

Adams reminded Conyers of his own oath to uphold the Constitution. "You have taken the same oath, Congressman Conyers, and we expect you will hold it just as sacred as we do and begin impeachment hearings at the soonest possible moment. To do any less is to disgrace the memory of the thousands of U.S. troops killed and wounded in this illegal war, and mocks the millions of Iraqis who have died and suffered in George Bush's war of aggression."

Veterans For Peace is a national organization including as members men and women who served in the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), World War II, the Korean, Vietnam, Gulf and current Iraq wars as well as other conflicts "cold or hot." Veterans For Peace is an officially recognized Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) represented at the U.N.

Flood the media too with this announcement

It is important to get the media to pay attention. All action on this issue needs to be publicized and made its way to those who can help inform a rather complacent citizenry right now. Though, if you went to the AOL site this morning, there was a 55% approval rating for impeachment as opposed to 45% against. Considering where the polling took place that is a hugely positive sign.

We have to be the media!

Last night my friend and I were listening to Kucinich read the articles. She called all four TV stations that serve the Twin Cities and asked them to report on this historic moment.

Not one would report on it. Their reaction:

"He (Kucinich) does this all the time, so if something comes of it, we will report it."

"We'll wait and see if it develops in to anything." (I think they mean let's wait and see what the pundits do.)

"I don't think our producers have time to put it on, we already have a show." They were doing their "investigative report" that entailed calling gas stations to find out what local gas prices were.

Something more going on here

The Seattle Times had a tiny little paragraph about Kucinich's 35 articles so I looked up in the archives how many stories they printed about the introduction of the articles of impeachment against Clinton and there were at least 8 - all very long articles about that - and there were hundreds about the actual impeachment process.

Something more going on here than meets the eye.

Fourth estate is dead and gone. RIP free press, of course we knew that.

Dennis Kucinich just released 35 counts against George Bush, calling for Impeachment. He is being ignored by the media. The Michael Cavlan for US Senate campaign condemn the media for their continued betrayal of the public trust by it's silence on this. Cavlan states "This betrayal is even worse than the corporate media aiding the Bush Administration lies that got us into the illegal, immoral invasion and occupation of Iraq."

For this blackout to be broken, Progressive Democrats of America, Move On and every other progressive group need to call for Senator Obama to publicly call for Impeachment. Make it clear that if he does not do so, right now that they will publicly withdraw support from Senator Obama and publicly support Cynthia McKinney and/or Ralph Nader. We make the same case for Senator Norm Coleman and Al Franken that if they do not support Kucinich that you will publicly not support them and will indeed support any Independent that run against them, now and in the future.

Impeachment really is this important and you all know it. Make them prove that Impeachment was not taken off the table because they had something to hide under the table. Or we can assume that they did have something to hide, in which case, they do not deserve our support.

I am who I am.
D WI am who I am.

Impeach!

Impeach and imprison!

If only the Democrat-led leadership in Congress had the guts to impeach this criminal president, they would find that not only would they have the support and backing of a majority of the American public, but also the rest of the world, and likely guaranteeing a Democrat win in November for the White House.

The strength of America has always relied on the foundations set forth in its laws and Constitution. To ignore those cherished laws now in the republic's time of need, is a crime in itself, and indeed possibly a greater one.

Conyers himself answered, so told him he is most guilty now.

Jay Janson reporting that during Kucinich's impeachment bill address,
I called Conyers' D.C. number as VFP mail asked, thinking I would get
his voice mail as it was already evening.

To my surprise Conyers himself answered, so I just politely told him
that I and millions of Americans have come to believe that he is more
responsible than Bush or anyone else for the all the loss of life in
the continuing wars of occupation, because he Conyers is blocking the
impeachment process the only hope Americans have to use
constitutional law to end the wars, and to prosecute the Bush
administration.

Conyers, speaking very slowing repeated me, "Let me get this
straight, you are saying that I am responsible for the wars
now..........."
I argued the point politely but firmly and we talked
back and forth as he kept saying, "why don't you let me hear the
man"
..... and I kept saying sure go ahead but Conyers seemed truly taken aback and therefore interested in what I was saying to him as a member of the Veterans For Peace, and he kept talking to me. He asked for my telephone # and arefully repeated it and said we would call me. He said it twice, with emphasis. He mentioned that he liked to answer his phone himself.

Just thought other members might like to know how worthwhile it is to
call Conyers.

At one stage in the conversation, I mentioned how many millions of
Americans there were, honest Americans, not capitalists, certainly
not communists who realize most of our elected officials are not
worth talking to and that was why we call him, as someone we hope is
worth talking to. (this is a line from Dancing With Wolves)

happy about VFP efforts,

Repeating VFP ACTION ALERT

TELL CONYERS TO MEET WITH VETERANS
Call Representative John Conyers - Tell him that at this point he, John Conyers blocking impeachment, is more guilty than anyone, Bush, Pelosi etc., for tomorrow's deaths and maiming of Iraqis. 202-225-5126
John Conyers, is more guilty than anyone, even Bush and Pelosi if he continues to block impeachment. Call Representative Conyers (202-225-5126) For with an impeachment, the wars would end and many of our Iraqi brothers and sisters would not be killled during the ongoing U.S. occupation war.Call, and whether or not Conyers calls me back, I will call him again!

Call Conyers! 'Just Do It!'
