I left the BBC America channel on last night. When I put the TV on today, the Torchwood series was playing.
It tells the story of a world where aliens are returning. They communicate by taking over the children-- all the children in the world-- who freeze and then start mouthing the same message; "we are coming," then, "we are here."
scene from Torchwood, the BBC show.
Here in the US we have people who are in the 99%, or even in the bottom 10%, who vote for and support the 1% because they are deluded into believing that they will join the 1% and start making $340,000 a year or more.
I met one the other day. She talked about how she was being screwed by the local municipality, in ways that they didn't do to big chain operations. I asked, "So, you're an Occupy supporter?"
"No," she replied, "I'm a member of the 1%, or I intend to be."
Later, she told me that her store was netting her $13,000 a year. Not surprising. She was paying a pretty high rent and in the 30 minutes I was in the store in what should have been a busy Saturday, only one customer showed up.
This women is deluded. She is living in an illusion. She is like these children, only instead of speaking in unison, directed by extraterrestrials, she is pulling election levers that elect people who vote profoundly against her interests. She speaks against people who would help her better. Of course, most Americans don't have a chance to vote for good elected officials. They aren't on the ballot. The two party system excludes them. And most Americans allow it to happen, acting like the children of Torchwood, mindlessly wording what is put in their heads, except it's by the corpstream media.
