To All Republicans in Congress ( and a few Democrats as well )

Blackmail is ugly. It is also illegal in most states. At the least it is immoral.

"...The source says these threats are the principle reason for the Obama administration's abrupt pullback last week from a commitment to release some of the documents. A Republican Senate source confirms the strategy. It now appears that Republicans are seeking an Obama commitment to safeguard the Bush administration's darkest secrets in exchange for letting these nominations go forward."

America is in trouble in part because of Congress and past administrations. Republicans and Democrats alike stood by doing nothing as our country was sucked into the mud for 8 long years, delivering us to the brink of economic and moral disaster. We became universally hated around the globe, increasing the dangers to our citizens and to our soldiers. Millions have lost jobs and their homes because of unchecked greed which has caused far more damage than any terrorist attack could. A Democrat's surplus was turned into deficit of immense proportions in short order.

American's voted and chose a new leader who offers us positive action and a way out of the mess, hopefully not too late. While it is may be true that not everything proposed is going to be the best solution at least there is finally an attempt to do something to turn things around.

Enter Republicans. It seems that the "Grand Old Party" has decided unilaterally that they won't allow anything to succeed, that if they can't be the only heroes America can just sink and die. The party now wants to blackmail Obama and the American people to be silent and to continue to hide the facts of the Bush administration from the American people. This in direct opposition to the open and honest government promised by Obama.

Why would your party stonewall progress for America? Pride? Arrogance? Guilt? Greed? Sore losers? All of the above? Republicans wouldn't couldn't fix anything while you had power...help now or get out of the way.

If Bush committed crimes in my name I have a right to know. If he did not then you have nothing to fear if his papers are released. If, in fact, those papers show criminal behavior then the Republicans are guilty of using blackmail to suppress evidence of a crime and perhaps become complicit in those crimes. Is that what you are afraid of? Your own complicity? Letting America know how corrupt Congress had become for those 8 years?

Congress has a moral obligation to the TRUTH !

Stop being a road block to the future of America. You had your chance and this is where it got us. If you can't do or say something positive and you can't compromise with the majority, stay silent and stay out of the way and let America return to better days. What reputation you had is gone and your present obvious obstructionist ways are not serving your party or our citizens.

Side note to Obama. Don't play their childish political games. Don't announce intentions in advance. If you have something to release just release it. Once it is out, poorly behaved politicians lose their blackmail advantage. We have the truth we deserve and you won't be bullied out of keeping your promise to America. If they don't respect you keeping them in the loop, they are just using your respect for them against you and our citizens.
