I guess it is just me.
I am a little down on the economy and I know I shouldn't be. The New York Times (the same people that sold us Weapons of Mass Deception from the Bush Administration) are telling us that we shouldn't be feeling bad because happy days are here again.
We have been in a recovery since last March or April and I should be happy.
But maybe there is something chemically wrong with me.
For the last year, we have watched hundreds of banks fail and real unemployment hit beyond 20%. Just a couple of months ago, the number of people on food stamps hit an all time high. Nearly 40 million people are receiving food stamps during this recovery and nearly half of US kids are on food stamps.
But things are good and I should be happy.
Things are so good that now food banks can't keep up with the soaring demand.
Things are so good Wall Mart has to implement deep price cuts because of slumping sales. An America in recovery can't even afford to buy much of the cheap junk at Wall Mart.
Things are so good that cities in the industrial Midwest, like Detroit, are bulldozing their buildings and turning the land back to nature. Poverty in Detroit is nearly universal and it is estimated that 70% of the people of Detroit are jobless.
Things are looking up and I don't know why I feel so down.
Maybe I got this thing about watching my fellow Americans suffer, even if we are in a wonderful recovery.
Maybe I feel a little funny about all those foreclosures that people are experiencing.
Things are so good that even the very wealthy are experiencing foreclosures. Homes valued over 5 million dollars are experiencing a big jump in foreclosures. The rise in the foreclosure rates will keep going up for 2010, according to the Mortgage Bankers Assn.
You know they say other Americans might have the same chemical imbalance I have.
