"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". ---Edmund Burke

What we can do for Change in America is....

A) Press a button to spread articles to Digg, Reddit, Yahoo Buzz, etc.

B) Post a note onto our articles granting permission to quote, reprint, and specifically asking readers to post that article all over the web, email it out, etc. I've seen articles going to the front webpages of progressive radio news stations given this permission. Word really does travel far and wide when we ask for it to be disseminated.

(One experience I had after asking for such word-spreading was to see an article of mine printed as the sole content of a newsletter for which 50 cents per copy was charged. So I've added a statement to my reprint requests saying that nobody can make a dime off my work; however, permission to reprint free of charge is granted).

C) Send out emails asking reciepients to do the same.

D) Ask for articles, emails, etc., to be sent to the head honchos of activist organizations (moveon.org, aclu, center for constitutional rights, you name it). Readers can help to send articles and action alert requests to those leaders they believe in. The outcome of proactivity should be obvious.

E) Write letters to the editor. This spawns public awareness. Letters are read by poliiticans as indicators of public opinion (letting us know that they do care plenty about what we think, contrary to popular belief) and that helps to get word out. Don't forget about college newsletter editors as sources of controversial printing.  Their work will help to wake the slumbering giant. Because after all, parents love their offspring and will listen to what they have to say, where the word of others will be brushed aside. As college kids talk to their parents, they help to wake up Americans from their slumber. Very important part of our strategy to take seriously!

F) Anybody who simply rants and raves about the mess we are in, while at the same time gloating in their refusal to do anything with all "good" "reason" in not so doing, is either completely jaded OR is, in fact, working for The Other Side. It only makes sense that imposters work to discourage the proactive cross-sector. Therefore, politely rebut discouraging statements from others (don't accuse, because we could be wrong) or just ignore them, going ahead and doing your thing regardless. And please ask others to do the same.

G) Where protests are ignored by the media and numbers of participants are downplayed, class action lawsuits do get news coverage. Time for a change?

"We, the unwilling, led by the unqualified, have been doing the unbelievable for so long, with so little. We now attempt the impossible with nothing". (Source unknown).

And guess what. We win. Because we all work collectively, and given our strength in numbers, we create a tsunami.

We get the America we all work for and do nothing about. The choice is ours:

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". ---Edmund Burke

This quote summarizes the nature of my concerns and the content of personal experiences which stir my activism: "Necessity is the plea for every infringement on human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves". --Paul (more...)
