Well, Duh! (NOTE: For Gay newsers this may seem like a rehash of last week's events, but the analysis will definitely be ongoing for weeks to come!)
In the world of politics there is more religion than we should have.

But in the world of religion, there is more politics than we need. It was politics - the politics of "religious freedom" - that sank a woman's bid for national martyrdom. While everyone wants to believe that she didn't seek martyrdom, the forces pushing her into that state are not exactly what you would call credible.

Last week was fraught with stories about two very religious people: Pope Francis and Kim Davis. Both were lionized and feted, but only one was an official martyr - Kim Davis (via Christian Right's legal arm, Liberty Counsel), the Kentucky county clerk who was jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. While Francis made statements about family values in New York, Washington and Philadelphia, Davis made a speech about her values at - where else? - the Family Research Council's Values Voter Summit. Francis has been compared to his namesake (the one from Assisi) while Davis was compared to Rosa Parks (!?). So what made Davis better than Francis?

Nothing, it seems, but profuse politicizing, lies and the zealotry of a born-again.

Kim Davis' Born Again Problem

Can born-agains have gay friends? Evidently not many.
