The Cosmic Story: Sagittarius Full Moon 2014
A Brave And Startling Truth
We, this people, on a small and lonely planet
Traveling through casual space
Past aloof stars, across the way of indifferent suns
To a destination where all signs tell us
It is possible and imperative that we learn
A brave and startling truth
And when we come to it
To the day of peacemaking
When we release our fingers
From fists of hostility
And allow the pure air to cool our palms
We, this people, on this small and drifting planet
Whose hands can strike with such abandon
That in a twinkling, life is sapped from the living
Yet those same hands can touch with such healing, irresistible tenderness
That the haughty neck is happy to bow
And the proud back is glad to bend
Out of such chaos, of such contradiction
We learn that we are neither devils nor divines
When we come to it
We, this people, on this wayward, floating body
Created on this earth, of this earth
Have the power to fashion for this earth
A climate where every man and every woman
Can live freely without sanctimonious piety
Without crippling fear
When we come to it
We must confess that we are the possible
We are the miraculous, the true wonder of this world
That is when, and only when
We come to it.

This week's full Moon occurs in the sign of Sagittarius, the sign of the Truth-speaker and Truth-seeker. As Maya Angelou so eloquently states, when we come to that truth, we will be set free to become the possible humans Spirit created us to be. At this Full Moon, we look at our Gemini mind--a left-brain rational mind that seeks answers and names things to make the world seem solid and secure--and reflect on the meaning of those answers and names. We need to ask ourselves, are those names true to the life they describe, the life we experience?
The Sun in Gemini highlights how we use our minds to perceive, process and understand life. The Sagittarius Moon asks us to reflect on how well that mind helps us to see the truth of our lives--what meanings we give to our perceptions and what judgments and beliefs we develop about what is possible. We are here to learn a brave and startling truth: that we are more than we've been led to believe by our culture and our religions. If that is the truth, then we have to ask ourselves if our doors of perception are wide enough to encompass that brave and startling truth.
We all live on the 'small, lonely, drifting' planet that is our mother Earth. We can either take the narrow perspective, which only views my life and my needs, or we can take the larger perspective and talk about our lives and our needs. How would our thought processes be different if we changed our perspective from 'my to our'? Perhaps this full Moon can be a gateway to that larger perspective. Chiron in Pisces is challenging us through this full Moon to open our hearts to the real truth--that we are one family and that it is up to all of us to meet the challenges that face us. Can we create a healthy, sustainable, fair and creative world? Or will we chose to destroy our home and our lives in refusing to meet the future?
How can we continue to ignore the truths that are facing the world? Climate change is affecting us, not matter what we want to call it. We are being called upon to sacrifice a wasteful way of life for a more simple life. Are we willing to make that sacrifice for our children's children? Our financial system is rigged and broken, so we need to start it over again--perhaps by cancelling all debt. Are we willing to see money as a tool, not as an end in itself? Our government is overrun with politics--perhaps we need to go back to representatives who only go to Washington for 2 years and no more. Are we willing to take up our responsibility to our neighbors and the world? Our educational systems no longer serve the function of learning and wisdom, but of economic viability. Are we willing to educate ourselves into consciousness? The military owns our economy--that needs to change. Are we willing to give up war? We need to re-establish our communities so we learn to thrive together. Are we willing to engage? And the list goes on"
Mercury/Hermes is the 'ruler' of this Gemini Sun and Jupiter/Zeus is the 'ruler' of this Sagittarius Moon. Mercury is the Messenger of Jupiter, the Father Spirit of Life. Mercury turned retrograde on June 7, traveling into the underworld/innerworld from watery Cancer to intellectual Gemini. Jupiter is in Cancer as well, prodding the mind to acknowledge the power and purpose of our emotional intelligence and our soul's needs. Jupiter sends Mercury off to make sure that our emotional needs become part of our intellectual filters. When we stop disregarding our feeling life, instead of drowning us in emotional turmoil we can begin to discover what those emotions are telling us, and we'll have a truer sense of our needs and our purpose. The mind can help us name our emotions and turn them into feelings which help us give value to life. Which help us make the right choices for our lives.
Jupiter is inconjunct its own Sagittarius Moon. This is an aspect of analysis and corrections, forcing us to make both major and minor adjustments as we work to understand our emotional tides. It helps to have discipline, discrimination and organization to work out old patterns of thought and behavior. The Moon/Jupiter inconjunct helps us develop compassion for ourselves and others, as well as helping us assess situations more accurately. We might swing between too much and too little emotion, but we'll also have the ability to ride out the tidal currents and step back to see the bigger picture. Jupiter helps us stay true to our values and moral code at the same time as we meet people with more compassion and openness.
