Mercury Retrograde in Cancer

Mercury goes retrograde at 24* Cancer on June 26th.   The Sabian symbol for Mercury retrograde is:   A beautiful South Seas island, whose white sands are strewn with pearls. This vision of perfection speaks to us on the deepest levels--an island paradise where we can just live life.   Our pearls of great price are there on the sands, our long labor to become conscious turned into a luminous jewel for us to claim and wear.   The pearl of great price is our soul and it seems this month offers the simple pleasures that make our souls joyful.

You can be sure that any messages you missed about what's going on in your life and in your world will be repeated in ways that will go straight to your heart.   It takes a huge effort to stay on track with change.   This month that all will change, because the heart gets engaged.   This month, there is grace available for all of us, a gift from Spirit, to help us on our way.   With Mercury retrograde in Cancer, our emotions are suddenly front and center.   Watch out for miscommunications which turn into hurt feelings.   It's time to express what you're feeling, but try not get caught up in your own or other people's dramas.   The grace note is that this will be easier to do now.

Find new ways to communicate how you're feeling rather than being taken over by your emotions.   You might find yourself being cranky--a great Cancer word!   Patience now is a virtue.   It's time to learn how to listen to the emotions behind the words.   Sometimes we're saying one thing but really want to say another.   So have patience.     With cosmic blessings flowing now, give people a break and try not to project the worst onto what they're saying.

This Summer's Water Grand Trine

Multiple planets (Mercury, Venus, Moon, Sun, Jupiter and later Mars) having been moving through Cancer since June, each making up the third leg of a grand water trine along with Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces.   This is nothing less than a blessing from the Great Mother of Life in this time of crisis and transformation.   While trines (having a planet in each of the three same elemental signs) offer us gifts and talents, because of the closed nature of a trine, they can sometimes be hard to access.   But this grand trine feels different, especially because it flows with so many planets moving through the dance.   And with a water trine, our boundaries are also fluid, making us more "psychic' and open to each other.  This healing trine brings us wisdom and greater consciousness.   Stay open so your dreams and feelings can guide you in reshaping your life.

This blessing calls us back to the loving arms of the Mother, to the Earthly Paradise, where all of us are loved.   If we would love our neighbors, first we must love ourselves.   And we learn that love from this Great Mother who nurtures us, shelters us, gives us life and takes us at death.   The healing energies of this grand trine are profound if we consciously work with them and healing none-the-less even if we don't.     We just have to watch out that we don't get dragged under by powerful emotions where we project onto others our own deficiencies because we refuse to accept Saturn in Scorpio's demand to look at our own darkness.

As we are cradled in the womb of the Mother, her love gives us the courage to look at the ways we deal with each other--all our relationships will have lessons for us now.   With Saturn in Scorpio, we have to see our shadows and accept those dark, angry parts of ourselves before we can go on to be intimate with another.   Accusations, jealousy, envy, anger are just a few of the emotions we might experience as Saturn slows down and turns direct on July 7th at 5* Scorpio: An opera star braves the storm to attend a wild party on board a ship.   An opera star uses the full range of her voice to channel strong emotions and tell a story.   Her songs express all the anger, passion and jealousy inherent in human interactions.   The elements of wind and rain and sea also symbolize those strong emotions--nature itself is causing some chaos.   And yet the opera star braves these elements to be with like-minded people and celebrate life in the midst of that chaos.   Perhaps this symbol speaks to our need to let go and go wild for a short time in the face of the storms that are coming our way.      Saturn wants us to take responsibility for our fears about sharing ourselves, about seeing our truths and letting others see us as well.    Like don Juan's advice to Carlos Castaneda, perhaps we need to "take death as our adviser' and stop being afraid to be ourselves.   Let your past go; use what you've learned from the past to move forward with confidence.

Neptune in Pisces went retrograde on June 7th at 6* Pisces: West Point cadets, shouldering guns armed with bayonets, march and countermarch in the red setting sun.     This symbols points to the changing of the guard, letting the old order die so a new one can be born.   Also, these cadets are trained and disciplined, ready to sacrifice themselves for the greater good.   What would you sacrifice?   How committed are you to letting your old way of life go so you can live more aligned with Nature's laws?   Neptune in Pisces can help us dream big dreams, opening our imaginations to Spirit's messages.   Aligned with Saturn, we have a chance to actually manifest some of our dreams.   The planets moving through Cancer pick up these big change energies and incorporate them into our daily lives.   As each one of them become part of the water trine, Neptune and Saturn will bring both a vision and a discipline to our lunar feeling life, our solar sense of Self, our Venusian love nature, our Mercurial mind, our Jupiterian inspiration and curiosity, and later in July, to our Martian desires.

The Uranus/Pluto Square

At the same time, each of these planets will become part of the Uranus/Pluto square.   All of us are struggling at the crossroads where Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus in Aries are challenging each other and us with the energies of death and revolution, transformation and innovation, letting go of the old so the new can be born.    This is deep and exhausting work and everyone needs some lovin' at times like these.   So while the universe is sending us challenges all month, it is also sending us the blessings of the waters.   The Water of Life heals us on the deepest levels, so let the healing happen while you deal with the challenges.

As these planets move through Cancer and come into an opposition with Pluto and a square to Uranus, they receive the message of change and transformation as well as send a message about what our emotional and security needs really are.   In the midst of deep change, what are the important things to remember?   Family, friends, creativity, children, nature, spirit, justice?   Cancer demands that we take into consideration the feminine, nurturing qualities of life that patriarchy has ignored.    Now is the time to recognize and incorporate these feminine qualities in your own life and in our collective life.

The Goddess has returned and She wants us to recognize that we are all loved.   But like any good mother, She wants us to also love each other.
