A Summer Pleasantry

By Robert S. Becker

You betcha, we crashed the stage

With willful slogans oozing rage;

Like snarling Palin, our model rogue,

Ain't contempt in "populist" vogue?

Umbrage propels Tea Party zeal,

Defying Obama's uppity seal;

Don't blame the looming Civil War

Because we roar, "We're all done for."

Or slam "know-nothing, redneck hicks"

For ridiculing socialist cliques;

Death panels, welfare get us fried,

Plus perverts pushing gay pride.

Hell yes, we're the radical right,

Small-town, proud, and lily white;

Evangelical, as the Bible explains:

We only believe what God ordains.

Why can't the world be as it was,

Jobs for us, not distant foreigner?

With old-time religion, faith alone,

Not secular science on the throne?

We'll brawl to take our country back

From outsider or minority attack;

Let's make it real simple, like ABC,

Watch out, boy, "Don't tread on me."

We reject foes to Israeli peace,

Worship Limbaugh, not P.C. police;

What choice: get armed to rumble,

Otherwise, America will crumble.

Throw leftwingers down the tubes,

They hate we love guns and boobs;

They gripe we're dinosaurs on race

"Some people" should know their place.

So, we ain't a-feared of revolution

Favoring secession over evolution;

And readin' lies "bout climate change,

Just cuts practice at our rifle range.

Change can flame from smallest fire,

Long as rightwingers goad our ire.

Praise the Lord, pass ammunition:

No Rapture without conflagration.

Educated at Rutgers College (BA) and UC Berkeley (Ph.D, English) Becker left university teaching (Northwestern, U. Chicago) for business, founding and heading SOTA Industries, high end audio company from '80 to '92. From '92-02 he did marketing (more...)
