See photo: http://blogs.salon.com/0002255/2008/06/05.html A fragmented world awaits a true uniter and that person is Barack Obama ~ whose persona, compassion and grace could well lead us to a shift in consciousness where altruism and social cooperation will replace greed and separateness for a world which can no longer resist its innate urge to unite: Allen L Roland The world is watching the 2008 Presidential primaries and election with eager anticipation. Most of the world ( except Israel ) mistrust the Cheney/Bush administration and can't wait to see the election of a leader ~ who represents the best in American versus the worst which has been glaringly obvious with the Bush administration. We have obviously forgotten the words of Benjamin Franklin ~ " Wise and good men are, in my opinion, the strength of the state; much more so than riches and arms. " Dedicated at our birth to the spread of liberty and freedom ~ we have become the world's largest supplier of arms. We have supported inhumane dictatorships throughout the world, both overtly and covertly, and have sold our divine birthright for monetary and cosmetic political gains. How can we justify that over 40% of the total amount of research and development spending since World War II has been directed at achieving military ends ? There is only one plausible answer ~ We have been controlled by FEAR and still are in many ways with the Bush Administration. We have obviously forgotten the words of Carl Sandburg ~ " For we know that when a nation goes down and never comes back, when a society or a civilization perishes, one condition may always be found ~ they forgot where they came from. They lost sight of what brought them along " Barack Obama senses and speaks to this deep yearning for the best of America and the rest of the world is obviously watching, with eager anticipation, as Kevin Sullivan pointed out yesterday in the foreign edition of the Washington Post. Barack Obama's victory in the Democratic primaries was a moment to admire the United States, at a time when the nation's image abroad has been seriously damaged. From hundreds of supporters crowded around televisions in rural Kenya, Obama's ancestral homeland, to jubilant Britons writing "WE DID IT!" on the "Brits for Barack" site on Facebook, people celebrated what they called an important racial and generational milestone for the United States. "This is close to a miracle. I was certain that some things will not happen in my lifetime," said Sunila Patel, 62, a widow encountered on the streets of New Delhi. "A black president of the U.S. will mean that there will be more American tolerance for people around the world who are different."
