It seems there has been an uptick in the number of gun deaths recently. Even more than usual. And, sadly, so many of the victims are children.

Of course the latest school shooting in Washington state, where freshman Jaylen Fryberg opened fire on two of his cousins and three other friends in the school cafeteria, has sent a fresh chill up our spines.

Yesterday we tweeted about this latest school tragedy, asking what the response was from the NRA. Of course, the pro-gun-nuts came out in force and spammed up our twitter feed with nastiness and accusations that have little to do with the issue at hand -- when will we start valuing children as much as we value guns?

The Washington school shooting grabs national attention, but there are countless other gun deaths each day. So many, in fact, that they often don't make the top of the local headlines. Here's a small sampling from recent days:

Detroit boy accidentally shoots self with mom's gun

9-Year-Old Girl Struck by Gunfire Outside Anaheim Home

Baby dies after being shot in head during gun-cleaning accident in Kokomo

Two Children Shot in St. Louis

1-year-old boy caught in crossfire, shot at SE Atlanta

Guy Kills 3-Year-Old in Game of 'Gun Tag'

Man Shoots Teen For Laughing

2-year-old child shot in the head in Claymont, Del.

Truthseekers, this is just a short list from the last five or six days. And only the incidents reported to local news.

With the Republicans expected to take control of Congress after next week's elections, is there any hope for meaningful legislation to stop this needless bloodshed? Or will the biggest winner next week be the NRA?

Kathy never expected a career in radio as a talk show producer. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Kathy was completing her nursing degree when in 2001 - in an emergency - she was asked to fill in as the producer of Mike's program. Within a few (more...)
