(This song was recorded in 1983 for the Fast Folk Musical Album in Greenwich Village,N.Y. The Fast Folk albums were later taken  over by Smithsonian/Folkways Records, and are available for purchase on that label. The song was performed on NPR's "All Things Considered" on March 17, 1983 ) Words and music are available through any number of Internet sites. Background: The investigating Church Committee found that Cuba's Fidel Castro was a terrible liar when he claimed the CIA tried to kill him more than twenty times. Senator Church said it was only eight. But of all the diabolical CIA plots---such as exploding a sea shell in Havana harbor when Fidel swam by---the most ghastly was told to me by my friend Irving, a deli owner, and I had to write this song about it.---Sherwood Ross

(By Sherwood Ross)

I ran a kosher deli

Down old Virginia way

Not far from the Pentagon

And the CIA

An Admiral got heartburn

Two generals passed away

That's when my country called on

To trick for the U.S.A.

Oh, I was whisked to Langley

In a foreign service car

Asked to go to Cuba

Set up my deli bar

"Irving, slice the same pastrami

You fix here every day

Let's hope Big Enchilada
