- Malaysian legislators in the poor conservative Muslim northeastern state of Kelantan should marry single mothers to help care for their children, a state representative suggested....

...."What I mean by quota is adding to the number of wives," Wan Ubaidah, a female legislator said, according to Thursday's Star newspaper....Source: Reuters

Perhaps this idea of having wealthy males marry poor single mothers to help care for their children might work here in the US.

Sure we would have to change the law on polygamy, but the plan has its merits.

The proposal would make the Republicans happy because it is a private plan to help end poverty. It could be sold as the 'Old Testament's Solution to Poverty', since there was a lot of polygamy going on among God's Chosen People. That Old Testament connection would appeal to the Fundamentalists, NeoCons, and Conservatives

Republicans and their gang of lovable loony supporters like anything to do with the Bible except the parts about the 'Golden Rule,' 'Love', and 'Turning the Other Cheek.'

The idea will certainly make the super-rich males happy (and in America that is all that matters) because they will be allowed more than one wife, so they won't have to pretend to be faithful.

The proposal would really help stimulate the economy (as well as some other things) because the rich would have to buy more, relatively useless, things for their new much larger families.

But like any good proposal there is a downside.

The rich would likely require more corporate welfare from the Federal Government to keep them living in the style they and their families are used to living in. American Lawmakers would have to find ways to borrow more trillions to keep all of the rich and their extended families fat and happy.

Perhaps the program could be expanded to allow rich women the opportunity to marry poor men with children.

Nah, I am not sure we would be able to get the votes on Capital Hill for anything other than a purely Biblical approach.

But all in all, the proposal is a free market solution to poverty that will make the Conservative elements of American Society very happy.
