Is this it?  Will Obama's budget "compromise" with Boehner and the Neocons spell the end to our most protected, humanitarian government programs -- Medicare and Social Security? These two programs have come to define the compassion and equality for those less fortunate in our nation. We feed our hungry children, house the elderly, care for the sick. These essential social services are two of the few remaining protected government programs that separate us from fascist regimes around the world.

Shouldn't there be some other option to fund the massive debt The Bush Crime Family ran through the stratosphere with their illegal wars and enormous tax windfalls to the wealthiest 1% of Americans (and the Big Corporations, of course) other than defunding our last safety net? Seems the Neocons will not rest until all the middle class is thrust into abject poverty and servitude.

Here's a crazy idea -- why don't we tax the rich people, too? And make the corporations pay taxes, maybe? If corporations really want to be treated like people (as the Supreme Court decided), should they be allowed to get away with the same tax evasion that would send ordinary human beings to jail?

And you can't help but wonder what the state of the American economy (not to mention our global reputation and foreign policy profile) would look like if the Supremes had not handed Raisin Brain the election and Al Gore would've assumed his elected position in the White House back in 2000. Remember the Clinton surpluses? The social security lockbox? Remember the time you didn't have that uneasy pit gnawing in your gut, reminding you that your pink slip was coming any day, just as terrorists were lurking in the playground, waiting to throttle your children?

Remember when we weren't sending our people to kill and die in illegal foreign wars? Remember the pre-Patriot Act era, when the ENTIRE USA was a First Amendment zone? When your library records and phone calls weren't monitored? When we didn't illegally detain and torture other human beings?

But I digress . . .

Obama folds like a paper napkin anytime Bohener raises his tear-streaked face with a hint that the President's policies aren't acceptable. If he crumples this time, we really could be facing the end of America as we knew it.

Still, some cling to the hope that Obama really isn't the pro-corporate shill he seems to be. A Truthseeker emailed a list of Obama's actions in these first two years. Read them and decide for yourself -- is Obama a progressive?...

1.   Look at his choice of corporatist advisers.

2.   His lack of support for The Employee Free Choice Act. (No Empathy for the Working Class).

3.   His support of Free Trade.

4.   His escalation of a War in Afghanistan and elsewhere.

5.   His unwillingness to prosecute the Bush Crime Family.

6.   His lack of support of Gov. Siegelman and other railroaded people.

7.   His support of the Bush FISA compromises.

8.   His continuing the practice of renditions.
