Former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin says she is not interested in running for the U.S. Senate and prefers her current position as governor of Alaska.While Politico has her keeping those damned doors open;"No, I'm not planning on it because I think the people of Alaska will best be served with me as their governor," Palin, who has two years left in her term, told NBC television in an interview.
In an interview that will be airing this afternoon on CNN's "Situation Room," Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin leaves open the possibility that she could run for the United States Senate if a special election was held to replace scandal-plagued Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska):So which is it? Is she deliberately confusing her position to hedge her bets or just confused as to what she's said to whom?I believe that I have - I feel I have a contract with Alaskans to serve. I've got two more years in my term. I'm going to serve Alaskans to the best of my ability. At this point it is as governor.
Now if something shifted dramatically and if it were, if it were acknowledged up there that I could be put to better use for my state in the U.S. Senate, I would certainly consider that, but that would take a special election and everything else. I am not one to appoint myself or a member of my family to take the place of any vacancy.
My bet is on the latter.
