I never realized just what a gun-toting group of people the Republicans are
until recently. Just goes to show you how poorly I have done my homework. It saddens me that a party which promotes family values seems not to care a wit about animal families. And what is so disappointing and surprising is Governor Sarah Palin's record on animals.
Yesterday I received an e-mail which showed a picture the Los Angeles Times posted of Palin triumphantly kneeling by a bloody moose she shot. Her young daughter was beside her. What a sad lesson to impart to a young impressionable youngster-- that hunting is exciting and rewarding. No, it is not. That some men espouse this opinion is bad enough, but for women to support killing things for fun and sport disappoints those of us who believe that gentle nurturing is a better lesson to impart to young minds and hearts. This bloody spectacle of a beautiful moose is something that proves to me that McCain's choice was poor indeed.
And something incomprehensibe to me as well in this regard. I read that she had ordered the destruction of some wolf pups to protect the moose herd. Sadly, but who was to protect the moose from her?
This week many of us also received an e-mail from Rodger Schlickeisen of Defenders of Wildlife along with a video of graphic images of aerial hunting of wolves. He claims that aerial hunting is a brutal and needless practice that Governor Palin has fought hard to promote and expand. Well, she is true to form - insensitive and uncaring.
Per Schlickeisen "Despite strong scientific, ethical, and public opposition to aerial hunting, Governor Palin has..
* Proposed paying a $150 bounty for the left foreleg of each dead wolf.
* Approved a $400,000 state-funded propaganda campaign to promote
aerial hunting.
* Introduced legislation to make it even easier to use aircraft to hunt
wolves and bears."
I personally don't want a vice prsident who cares so little about the right of
animals to live in the wild. I personally don't want a vice president who is a
hunter. I think V. Pres. Cheney was hunter and war monger enough for me
to last a life time. I think hunting and warring are somehow related. I just hope that Senator Biden doesn't hunt. I guess that will be my homework unless someone already knows the answer.
