Troy Davis is a black man accused of killing a policeman in Savannah, Georgia. Nine eyewitnesses testified. In a case that was lacking evidence and surrounded by questions, seven of those witnesses have now recanted and even said that one of the witnesses actually did the murder. But the state of Georgia would not allow an appeal. Two hours before the scheduled execution on September 23rd, Troy Davis got a stay from the Supreme Court.

But now the Supreme Court has refused to hear the case, so it is back in the hands of Governor Perdue, a Republican in a state known for its injustices against black men for centuries. Here are more details of the case.

For those who can take a moment to try to stop the execution of Troy Davis, here is a very fast but powerful means. All people have to do is click on this link and write to the Atlanta paper about their feelings on this. The Governor will see and if there are a slew of letters from around the country, it will be obvious that Americans are upset and watching Georgia and what justice under a Republican governor looks like. And if people want to go further, please take my letter (below) and send it to their local paper as well as to as many other papers as they can take the time to reach.

At a time when the powers that be devalue us all, what we do for each other is our true measure.

Thank you.

Dear Editor,

Our world is being turned upside down by financial injustices and we are all swimming in a sea of greed and wrongs. Stopping the execution of Troy Davis is not just one more thing we need to do amid all the others. Instead, it is dry land.

As we measure things by commercial value and wonder what we are worth, standing up against a wrong done to someone we do not even know reminds us what is of real value in the world. It is about remembering the immense value truth and justice and the preciousness of each life.

It is outside of Wall Street greed and IRAs and money and simply about who we are as people still. When we stand up, we are justice. When we speak up for each other, we are strength and decency.

When we push back against such a wrong, we are worth everything.

Georgia has a terrible history of such wrongs done to its black citizens. I call on the Governor to stop Troy Davis' execution because the case is so obviously tainted. Do it for justice for Troy Davis. Do it in the memory of the all the black men who were lynched in this state, and to add a drop of justice on the other side of the ledger. Mercy, after so much injustice, is the least the Governor can wring from a system that has stained the state's name for ages. Don't add another stain as the world is watching. Add justice.

For God's sake, add justice.

Please forward to as many of your friends and family and organizations as you can.
