Once upon a time there was a country which had high ideals and a noble constitution and even though the people didn't agree about everything, life carried on and they made the best of their lives.
But all was not well in this country and no one really knew why. They paid their taxes, loved their kids, and many of them (not all) were devoutly religious, but they kept being dragged into war after war (which massacred their beloved children) and the rest of the planet increasingly hated their guts.
Also, no matter how hard they worked (in their squirrel cage world); they had to run faster and faster to stay even with their family's needs. There was a time when these needs were met with the income of one parent, but now BOTH parents had to work and often one or both of them had to have two jobs.
And somehow their health plans (and "insurance" in general) kept going belly up along with their 30 and 40 year earned retirements. In fact practically nobody "retired" any more since most people had to keep working into their 80's to pay mortgages which never seemed to pay down.
Also, suddenly (although it really only "seemed" suddenly) Mother Nature kept being gang banged by Texas Energy Corporations who forced people to buy Earth-killing fossil fuels -- even though there were literally 5 or 6 alternative energy methodologies (excluding atomic energy) which had been cost effective for ten or more years. But it was secretly whispered that the Texas OIL Corporations kept "buying them out" (i.e., declaring financial war on them), so the country was trapped into using the LEAST cost effective and MOST Earth-killing "energy" methodology on the planet.
Indeed, even more secretly it was discussed that the wars which killed tens or hundreds of thousands of innocent people (naturally many of them children), were really criminal invasions of other countries (justified with presidential lies) to STEAL THEIR OIL.
And then a catastrophe of unimaginable proportions happened to this country. Two planes crashed into two buildings in a major city and the buildings collapsed. The political party in power claimed this was an act of "terrorism" from another country and used this to "counter attack" with vengeance. However, it tuned out that the countries they attacked were countries with (you guessed it!) OIL, so people began to wonder if these "wars" were really about stealing the oil of the countries there was NO PROOF were responsible for the planes. Indeed it WAS proved was that the president of this country lied over and over again to justify the wars.
This catastrophe was called 9/11 and it was FANTASTICALLY beneficial to the party in power and what was called the "neocon agenda". But what was tragically worse was (is) exponentially growing scientific and observational evidence which basically proved these disasters were not merely the result of the "ineptitude" of the ruling party (since they had received a blizzard of very detailed warnings of EXACTLY would was set to happen), but this “day of infamy” was even worse than the WW2 one, since it seemed to be an "inside job", i.e., far from happening in spite of the government, it was engineered or at least facilitated BY the government. In short, mountains of objective evidence point to 9/11 as a day of infinite treason.
And finally the "government" of this country took away basically all regulations of food, environmental protections, pharmaceutical regulations, and regulations of complex financial markets and corporations. This resulted in a broken economy, a raped and murdered environment, poisonous food, and a catastrophic worsening of such life and death issues as vastly enlarged ozone holes and a melting of the ice caps due to global warming, and the deliberate destruction of ecosystems necessary for widespread human existence.
In short, the current government of this country instituted policies and changes that looked more and more like deliberate genocide of the middle and lower classes. For example, a city was intentionally murdered (called New Orleans) by systematically allowing the life and death levees to fail. People also remembered that white Europeans FORCED inoculations ("for their own good") on trusting and defenseless Africans which was followed by an epidemic of aides that decimated the Continent. Indeed, the horror of what was “done to” Africa by arrogant white Europeans would make Jesus weep.
Also, during the reign of this "government", educational programs were dumbed down to a level of illiteracy never known before in this country. Science too, suffered terribly, since it was virtually under funded out of existence by a congress and president, most of whom were probably in the lower 40th percentile of human education and intelligence. In short the dumbos were running the show.
Clearly, we're describing a country in very, very dire straits.
And now to the why
The nearly limitless power at work here is no longer "behind the scenes" (as they mostly were eight years ago).
This is not a country victimized by "bad luck", "Acts of God", or random events. This is a country with a government of elite ONE dem/pug party puppets (e.g., DLC = RNC). Ironically, elites" is really a flattering word, since it simply means national/international billionaires and multi-billionaires (many of whom are also religious fanatics).
Alas (as we all heartbreakingly know), the above isn't a gruesome fairy tale, it's the United States of America (more accurately, the United States of the Elites). Elites (aka the pig, pig rich, aka the "Have's") are the literal Gods and Goddesses of planet Earth. Not so long ago, they were called Kings and Queens, or more generally the "Aristocracy", and we were called variously peasants, peons, serfs, or slaves.
