New tents are popping up in the nation's capital and there is talk of expanding to a new park.
The two Washington, D.C.
Occupation camps - at McPherson Park and Freedom Plaza - are calling to action
all Occupy camps and persons interested in making their opinions heard by
Congress, to gather on Tuesday, January 17, 2012.
This call has gone out nationally and is being answered.
More than a dozen occupiers have just arrived from San Diego, and another 8 or 9 from Chattanooga.
Occupiers representing camps from Los Angeles, Dallas, Winston-Salem N.C., Greenville S.C., Wall Street, and Pittsburgh have already arrived. Other camps have already announced their planned arrivals. Throughout the past week many people passing through the camps have said that they will be at the protest as well. Expectations are high.
The Plan of Action for Tuesday, Jan 17:
The first rallying point will be at the McPherson Park camp starting at 8:30 a.m. After the crowd is assembled, this camp will march to the second point of rendezvous at the Freedom Plaza camp to join their brethren.
Once the two camps have joined they will march to the West Lawn of the White House. This will be the final gathering point before entering Congress at 2 p.m.
Prior to 2 p.m. the protesters on the West Lawn will divide up into their respective groups. Each group will follow either a red, black, or blue standard bearer towards the halls of our nation's capital. Red will congregate at the Rayburn Building, black will follow their flag to the Cannon Building, and those behind the blue banner will meet at the Longworth Building. These will be the final staging points before the Occupation of the people's houses begins.
At 2 p.m. Occupy protesters will peacefully and respectfully enter the buildings of the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the White House. All protesters are asked to request access to these three hallmarks of American democracy. These are public property and are open daily to all members of the public.
After flooding Congress, the Call to Action will continue at 6 p.m. with the mass mobilization of all Occupy forces. Everyone will be encouraged to move from the halls of Congress to the National Mall in preparation to Occupy the Supreme Court steps.
Since the Supreme Court is not considered public property , this was the scene of a serious confrontation three weeks ago. where many protesters were arrested.
From here, the protesters will move to the White House.
After the White House assembly, the Occupiers will move on to City Hall, the final event of the evening.
This is the first national Occupy Call to Action in Washington DC. It will be the working model for the next national day of occupation already scheduled for March 30, 2012. On that day the combined forces of the two Occupy camps, with help from the national Occupy affiliates across the country, will commence National Occupy Washington D.C. or, NOW DC.
